Ultrapetrol's boats float in both fresh and salt water. The company's Ocean Business operates about 10 tankers and other vessels off the South American coast with a capacity of 445 thousand deadweight tons (DWT). Its River Business segment has 620-plus barges and pushboats that carry dry and liquid bulk cargo through a section of Central America responsible for about half the world's soybean production. Ultrapetrol's Offshore Supply Business serves oil installations in the North Sea and along the Brazilian coast. Voting control is held jointly by members of the founding Menendez family, including CEO Felipe Menendez and EVP Ricardo Menendez, and a unit of the AIG-GE Capital Latin American Infrastructure Fund.
