Founded in February 1983, under the corporate name Salon Designs Limited, we purchased the last location of a 5 location salon- the rest had closed permanently. We started with 3 employees. Within one year we began to operate as a salary+ bonus salon and do not have our stylists 'compete' for customers. Each customer is every employees' customer. We have grown to 25 team members and have launched no less than seven salons because of the technical and business training of our staff.
Over 70% of our customers see multiple stylists, although customers always have the choice to see one exclusive stylist - it is always left to the customer to choose.
38 years later, we still internally certify each new team member, and have taken on both new and seasoned stylists, as there are no requirements to have existing customers - we provide the customers, stylists provide the expertise and the professional service.
We encourage a lot of enjoyment at the salons - our work is positive work - people want to come, people feel and look better when they leave - it's a 'beautifil business' to be involved in.
Our focus is on color and cutting. We do not try to be all things to all people. Rather, we specialize in the final condition and look of the hair - both in the style and health of the hair. We love working and sharing insights and formulas as we are compensated by our contribution, not productivity apart from our co-workers.
Our Senior and Designer Level Stylists are focused on growing the newer team members, sharing knowledge is a hallmark of our salons.
A typical new team member can become 50%-60% booked within a month or so of starting. That's how powerful working with stylists instead of competing with them can be. It tyipcally takes 3-4 years of work to have a 'full book'.
Our approach has allowed us to stay in business for almost 4 decades. Our team is diversified, our customers are from every age group and walk of life. It is the customer and their satisfaction that are the only priority.
