Mission We are leading the global change to an animal-free dairy future while following our five cultural values.
Determination with Kindness Have the resolve, the drive, and the will to succeed, but do it with empathy, encouragement, and compassion. In the face of adversity we will only excel as a team by keeping kindness at the forefront of everything we do.
Creativity with Transparency Creativity, persistence, questioning, and crazy ideas to solve hard problems are essential to our work. We do all of this out in the open while being honest and forthright about the new things we’re trying, getting feedback and input from our teammates along the way.
Teamwork with Rigor Hold yourself and those around you to high standards and understand how your responsibilities are interconnected with others’. As much as you rely on your teammates, they’re relying on you, and only with consistent communication and rigorous teamwork will we achieve our goals together.
Speed with Focus We move quickly, exploring new opportunities and incorporating new results to make progress rapidly. Remaining focused means making thoughtful decisions, listening to a range of perspectives and moving forward as a unified team once we’ve committed to the path ahead.
Love the Product Our scientific breakthroughs are always in the pursuit of better products. It’s by selling delicious dairy that we will bring about a successful future for New Culture and a positive impact for our customers and the planet.
Diversity, equity and inclusion in a startup workplace are integral to driving innovation and creativity. At New Culture, we understand this and prioritize having a diverse workplace that allows our people coming from different backgrounds, cultures, mindsets, and experiences to bring new perspectives to the table. This helps facilitate breakthroughs, increase morale, and create strong teams that collaborate efficiently when solving complex challenges. By focusing on including people with different abilities and talents, we continue to build on our sturdy foundation that promotes innovation and growth.
By creating an environment where everyone feels celebrated instead of judged by their differences, we can move closer towards a NEW CULTURE where everyone has an equal chance at success no matter their age or race or gender or identity preference.
Description At New Culture, we’re revolutionizing how cheese is made with our animal-free dairy products that stretch, melt, and taste like the real deal. We combine traditional cheese-making and innovative food science to make cheese that’s kinder on animals, the planet, and human health. With our groundbreaking science, any cheese is possible and can be made completely animal-free.
We are leading the global change to an animal-free dairy future. We believe our food choices can transform our food system and help heal the planet, one cheese at a time. That’s the commitment behind our mission and the passion in our products.
We love ‘em all, but for the-love-of-pizza we had to start with mozzarella. Our mozz has the same taste and stretch that you expect from your favorite pie, which is why we’re bringing our cheese to pizzerias first.
By the time it’s on your plate, it’s just as melty and creamy as the original. But it’s also animal-free, lactose-free, and planet-friendly. And above all, it makes a killer pizza.
New Culture exists to transform our food system and reliance on intensive animal farming: consumers should be able to indulge in delectable cheese without harming the environment or our furry friends. That’s why we’re all so passionate about bringing consumers animal-free cheese that tastes great, without compromises. Or, as we like to say: cow cheese without the cow.
New Culture was cofounded by Matt Gibson & Inja Radman. A little about the cofounders... Matt Gibson, CEO/Cofounder - Born and raised in dairy-rich New Zealand, Matt became passionate about transforming the dairy industry when he started learning about its massive environmental, animal welfare, and human health impacts. After founding multiple start-ups in New Zealand, he moved to the Bay Area to launch New Culture as part of IndieBio, the world’s leading biotech start-up accelerator, with co-founder Inja Radman. He has a BSc from the University of Auckland in genetics and microbiology, completed a certificate in filmmaking from the New Zealand Film Academy, and is a licensed skydiver with 60+ jumps above him. He is also a budding banjo picker. Inja Radman, CSO/Cofounder - Originally from beautiful Split, Croatia, Inja received her PhD from Cambridge University in molecular and synthetic biology and masters from ETH Zurich in biophysics and protein structure. After completing further academic research, she worked in analytical consulting in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries before joining Matt Gibson to co-found New Culture as part of IndieBio, the world’s leading biotech start-up accelerator. Prior to starting New Culture, Inja also led social impact projects in Mozambique and Tanzania. She is a devoted foodie, former dancer and badminton player, and a data geek to the core.

The next 5 years will be filled with even more exciting moments as we continue to make progress on New Culture's multi-decade journey - scaling our production capacity, releasing our first products onto the market, bringing our cheese to consumers everywhere. No matter who you are, what you believe in, or whatever dietary restrictions you might have, you won’t have to compromise when it comes to enjoying your favorite cheeses.
2021 was a big year of growth for us, as that was the year we grew from a team of 9 to a team of 12 & closed out the year with a $25M Series A. In 2022, we more than doubled and wrapped the year with 31 amazing Curd Nerds. We're all very excited for what 2023 has in store for New Culture.
