Chimera Bioengineering was founded out of a mission to cure cancer. Our co-founders, Ben Wang and Gus Zeiner, met in a cancer support group after Gus had survived ALL and Ben's wife, Kim, had passed away from AML. The grief and overwhelm of raising two twin girls without his wife brought Ben and Gus together, to drink beers and discuss AML and ALL and the treatment and research they wished was available to patients. Over a pitcher of IPAs, Chimera was founded.
Away from the bar and in the lab, our mission is to improve the efficacy and safety of engineered cell therapies with the goal of transforming the promise of this new therapeutic class into a reality that offers the hope of cures for cancer patients with currently incurable tumor types. Most tumors have developed defense mechanisms in their local environment, which suppress the immune system and prevent conventional cell therapies from working.
