Aeolus Pharmaceuticals wants to put an end to free radicals' free-wheeling, cell-damaging fun. The development-stage company is focusing its attention on developing catalytic antioxidant drugs, which can neutralize free radicals. Aeolus' drug candidates could battle amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, better known as Lou Gehrig's disease), stroke, Parkinson's disease, and other neurodegenerative conditions. The company is also developing antioxidant drugs to treat respiratory conditions and protect healthy tissue from cancer-fighting radiation. Chairman David Cavalier controls about half of the company through investment company XMark Asset Management.
