Description Lompoc Valley Medical Center (formerly known as Lompoc Healthcare District) was the first operating Healthcare District hospital established in California and was created in 1946 by the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors. The hospital is governed by an elected board of directors and is a political subdivision of the state of California.

The 463-square-mile district includes the city of Lompoc, Mission Hills, Mesa Oaks, Vandenberg Village, a portion of Vandenberg Air Force Base and the area east toward Buellton. LVMC includes a state-of-the-art 60-bed general acute care hospital; a 110-bed comprehensive rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility; Champion Center, a voluntary chemical dependency treatment center with 34 acute care medical beds and 30 recovery residence beds is closed as of June 23, 2017.
