We are laser focused on helping preserve and grow quality local media outlets in the United States, including web sites, newspapers, magazines or broadcasters. We feel quality news media are essential to preserving our freedom and quality of life.
Our team has deep roots in the newspaper industry and we are in high demand as consultants and speakers at industry events. We have led thousands of training sessions and workshops for journalists, publishers and ad sales professionals in 23 countries across three continents. We have redesigned more than 750 print publications and host hundreds of media outlets online using our custom-built web software.
While we still lead training, consulting and print redesign projects, our main focus is now on developing software that will help local media outlets thrive online. We've invested millions of dollars in developing better, smarter, easier to use and well designs platforms catering to smaller media outlets.

Creative Circle began in 1986 as a side business for our founder, Bill Ostendorf, who led training and workshops for other newsrooms while working as a newsroom manager at large and small newspapers.
In 2000, Ostendorf left The Providence Journal where he had worked in management for 13 years to work on Creative Circle full time. The consulting and training aspects of the firm quickly shifted to leading redesigns of print newspapers during a period of rapid growth. Several former employees he worked with at The Providence Journal joined Creative Circle and are still working there today.
In 2004, frustrated with the software his clients were struggling with to manage web sites, he raised $3.5 million to build a new web CMS for media companies. Creative Circle was the first CMS vendor to build a pay wall, user-contributed content tools, hyper-local and networked sites, a branded content platform and the first ad server to defeat ad blockers.
Creative Circle's CMS was revolutionary in that it brought better design and packaging to media web sites with flexible layouts and story templates. Creative Circle's web sites are dynamic and not limited to static wire frames, which increases user engagement and improves readership. The company now hosts and supports hundreds of local media outlets on its digital platforms.
