Westaim Corporation is aiming its business aspirations at the insurance industry. The holding company operates through subsidiary Jevco Insurance, which provides specialty property/casualty coverage of motorcycles and recreational vehicles, as well as standard auto and homeowners coverage. It also offers surety insurance policies for construction contractors and other businesses. Products are marketed across Canada through a network of independent brokers. Westaim acquired Jevco from Kingsway Financial in 2010. It previously held a majority ownership in NUCRYST Pharmaceuticals, which developed anti-infectives. It also owned a controlling stake in iFire Technology, which sought to develop flat panel displays.
