Lifetime Work put to Shame

Pros

I have worked for many years at Action Target and have met the greatest of people at Action Target and in the Customer World. I enjoy the industry and meeting the real people who defend our streets and our country. We use to share more ideals in the past of the purpose of being a company that helps save lives through our training with our line of products. We as a company use to work closely together and really feel the value of loyalty and friendships. We felt like we were a family in a greater cause. The greatest ideal of today's company is teaching us all how to work under extreme pressures and how to work under dictatorship style management. I also like the idea that when I come home and spend time with my family and friends, I have great stories to share that nobody believes that I can work in such a warzone.

Cons

You feel trapped in this company where you feel you can not leave. Its taught often that there is no world outside of Action Target. The executives are the joke of the day. Somehow, they feel they will make us grow to the next level while they treat us so bad. They make us feel useless and that they are the only ones that know anything at all. Then after we are treated so bad and our morale is beat down, they expect us to rally behind them on some charge of some quest we don't agree with. The middle management is scared of the top and know what the decisions should be but are scared to implement right choices from fear. Employees all in general are treating this as a prison sentence and seem to have lost any excitement for what we do.

Pros

Most of the shop employees are down to earth.

Cons

Under paid. Under valued. Upper management dose not seem to care about the shop employees. Raises are not even at cost of living increases. If you get a raise at all.

I completely agree we have some of the most down to earth shop employees - they are a great group! As for the feeling of being under-paid, that is a frustrating feeling- I'm sorry. We are constantly evaluating our pay rates to ensure we are paying fairly and competitively with annual increases, incentive programs, benefit programs, etc. I'm sorry it didn't fit your needs.

Mismanaged

Pros

The people that work there are great, they want the best for the company and want it to be an amazing place to keep a career and grow the business. The type of work is unique and is greatly gratifying knowing the hard work we put in goes further down the line into the training of law enforcement and military personnel as well as the basic citizen.

Cons

The management however does not do a good job harnessing and utilize the abilities of their employees. The manager of the department that I was in literally had no background in our department and told us that he has no desire to learn about it, he was just going to 'manage' the team. How can you manage a department when you have no idea how that department works and help your team get the necessary support they need? Further more he made no effort to understand or get involved with the department to help. Bottom line, we were not getting any help and with additions of new products that we had no training on, everybody was seeking direction. But did anything change, No, our manager told upper management everything was fine and we were working on addressing the problems. which never really happened. We were told to work overtime. Which brings up the next issue, the upper management is rarely even in the office. When they are around it was a rarity and a running joke throughout the rest of the staff. They seem to have little interaction with any of the 'workers' and it shows. One of the things that i thought was most strange is that none of the departments work together to address issues or make the overall process of things work well. If the time spent on 'cover your a..' was spent on eliminating the problem and coming up with a solution in the first place, productivity would go through the roof not to mention the moral between departments would be good for once. All this mismanagement is finally catching up and there are projects not getting done on schedule and customers are not happy. As upper management pushes to submit orders and increase the bottom line, steps are being skipped and mistakes are being made pushing projects back, needless to say, customers are not happy. I would recommend finding employment elsewhere.
