I worked at Advantax as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Few of the Senior Analysts are super hard workers and give great feedback as well as opportunities to learn about the industry.
Training is dependent on the analyst you are assigned with or possible work that can picked up from other analysts.
    Super friendly people!

    Cons

A lot of time it is super easy work such as stuffing files in envelopes, alphabetizing files, data entry, etc. at the same you are getting paid to perform these tasks.

    Advice to Management

    Need new coffee!

    Pros

What a gem! Provide top-notch property tax consulting and compliance services perched high above the fox with a view that is second to none.

    Cons

Parking spaces limited, get in early or expect a long, long walk to and from the car.

    Advice to Management

The force is strong with this one!

I worked at Advantax full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Nice location - near downtown St Charles with many dining options available. Casual dress code. Fresh brewed coffee with refrigerator available for staff use.

    Cons

Dysfunctional leadership team. Very high turnover. Uncomfortable work environment. Nearly a dozen honest negative reviews were quashed and removed from this site. Not sure how?!? I'ts a 'boys club' and women / serious business professionals should not apply.

    Advice to Management

Restructure from top down. Focus on personal property tax consulting core business. Eliminate flavor of the month book clubs and (dis)honest open book management.

I have been working at Advantax full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Nice people. casual work environment, supportive work-life balance. I appreciate the emphasis on giving back and opportunities to do service work within our community. Free lunchtime yoga, pet friendly office, employees really care about customer service.

    Cons

Young staffers hired right off campus have no business experience with other companies, therefore - no basis for comparison.

    Advice to Management

Explore flexible working arrangements for all employees. Most of our jobs could be done from home, at least a couple of days a week. Consider performance bonus program tied to individual results. Employees have no control of major line items, like company travel, which represent a big portion of monthly expenses.

    Negative Outlook

    Pros

Can show up in shorts and flip flops. Owner is nice but disconnected from reality of operations. Nice location. Ample parking.

    Cons

This place is a joke. Can't understand how they make any money. The management sells services they don't already offer. Then rely on staff to "make it happen". All people with the professional experience for the consulting and compliance have been replaced with interns. Customers not told that some returns not even filed. Resources outdated and useless. Very low pay. Serious tax professionals need not apply.

    Advice to Management

Sell the business before it implodes. Your holding on by a string. Staff is a joke; services are a joke. Customers in the dark.

I worked at Advantax full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Company puts out a solid product. Employees care about clients and really live up to the motto "the office next door"

A lot has been said on this site condemning the CEO - He is a good man who wants to right by his clients and his employees

    Cons

The CEO is a good man BUT he is in over his head. He loves to talk about his experience at a major company but that was only for a few years in a low level position.

He should have sold the business years ago.

He has lost his enthusiasm for the busines and sadly all of the employees at Advantax know this except for him.

    Advice to Management

CEO - Sell the business and do something you truly care about while you are still relatively young. You have wonderful skills that are being wasted.

Management - offer to buy the business and grow it into something that you can be proud of
