    I worked at Akima full-time

    Pros

Pay is decent. Get a chance to work on different contracts to support. Stable company that's been around for awhile. Employee perks.

    Cons

No upward mobility. Benefits ok but not the best. HR dept. could be better. A lot of manual processes. There is no quick turnaround. Have to send email for everything. Leadership have their favorites so can't take it personal.

    Advice to Management

Hire qualified and friendlier people in HR who actually care about helping others and demonstrate the sense of urgency to answer benefit questions. Streamline processes. Lead by example .

    "HR is virtual"

Current Employee - Anonymous Employee in Washington, DC

    Pros

At least 5 words are here.

    Cons

HR is a virtual ephemeral sprite of a department. NO ONE answers their phone. You have to email them and they will rarely answer questions right away. The first answer is either they "take it up with management" (translation: I don't know) or they refer you to documentation.

The lack of communication skills is arrogant and annoying.

Their HR orientation is done online. You cannot speak face to face. That is also annoying unless of course you are remote.

    Advice to Management

At least have someone in HR answer the phone. Getting voicemal no matter whom you call is very rude.

I worked at Akima full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's a company that used to have much better senior leaders. The CEO surrounded himself with C and D players.

    Cons

Nepotism. The CEO hired people who have no skill. The Business Development lead couldn't sell water to thirsty people. Pathetic.

    Advice to Management

Congrats. You ruined a good thing.

I worked at Akima (More than a year)

    Pros

    Free Parking, Cafe, & Paycheck,

    Cons

My time at Akima was not pleasing. Was hired as a temp and was told after 6 months of being there I would be hired permanent. It took them 9 months. I even went to my manager multiple times to ask why and no response.

Manager is my position never talked to us.

    Micromanagement.

    No personal connection with co-workers.

There is no range in age between employees. They need to hire younger people.

No room for growth within the company where I was.

    Advice to Management

Be friendly and actually make a connection with the employees you over see.

I have been working at Akima full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

A paycheck, convenient office location, free parking, lunch cafe in the building, no time to ever be bored, automatic flushing toilets.

    Cons

Extremely poor management, especially in HR. CHRO has brought MULTIPLE people to tears at work. The Directors are either just waiting until retirement, the next tyrant in line, or so comfortable they're collecting dust. Turnover is a huge problem in HR; perhaps eventually the CEO will figure out the problem starts at the top.

    Advice to Management

Take a long, hard look at your CHRO.

I have been working at Akima full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

They pay on time and have automatic flushing toilets.

    Cons

There is a constant feeling you are going to be fired. There is no personal interaction with co workers. Always being told that we need to make numbers. Not supportive environment in any form.

    Advice to Management

80% of the current employees have only been with Akima less than two years. That says it all, it is a revolving door, no loyalty to or from employees. Go work some where else the shareholders deserve better.

I worked at Akima full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I actually worked for Lawrence Livermore National Lab but Akima handled the contract. My supervisor at LLNL was the one who supported me. If Akima handles your contract, you may similarly have to work with your work supervisor for job reclassification, new salary, etc.

    Cons

When it came to HR, benefits, etc. I found Akima to be subpar. If I called with a question, no one followed up. When I called back, I got different answers before being referred to another person. Considering this is their main function, this says a lot. It may be a different story at other sites and even in other states.

    Advice to Management

Be more proactive. Put knowledgeable people on site.
