I worked at Automattic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Amazing benefits
    - Remote and very flexible
    - Smart co-workers
    - Lots of travel, if you're on a good team.
    - The pay is great but also appeared random compared to others.
    - Saying you worked at Automattic is really good for the resume.
    - You will work on a ton of different projects which keeps things interesting and always learning.

    Cons

    - Nearly impossible to switch teams.
    - They will force American cultural values and disregard the diversity of the company from all over the world.
    - Don't cause drama. Keep to yourself and do the work.
    - If you're not the right fit for the team, tough luck.

    Advice to Management

The role of a team lead need to be reviewed. It's very much a ladder despite what you're telling others.

I have been working at Automattic full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Open source, great pay and benefits, supportive group. Lack of office means less politics. Surprisingly little bureaucracy for a five hundred person company.

    Cons

Can be isolating to be remote, you need to find a social life outside of work. There is three to four weeks of travel as well. Because teams are distributed you might have meetings and at odd times.

    Advice to Management

Stay true to open source, keep up the transparency, don't follow market fads, and try to keep all of the products well-designed and accessible.

    Pros

Wonderful people, fulfilling work, and great training. Definitely an environment for those who prefer independence, but coworkers are always willing to offer help.

    Cons

Remote working isn't for everyone. I didn't suffer from this issue, but it could be isolating for others.
