      Great company with amazing benefits

      Pros

      - You are judged by your output vs hours worked - You have a good amount of autonomy to decide where you want to take your career and what projects you want to tackle. This obviously may vary by department - Everyone is extremely nice, supportive, and willing to help

      Cons

Documentation can be sparse at times, but everyone has the opportunity to contribute and close the gap. You must be a self starter in order to thrive here. If you expect to be handed a list of tasks each day to complete, this is not the place for you.

      Pros

Amazing work culture and the open-source commitment is unparallel.

      Cons

Not a lot of room for growth from a career or salary perspective.

      Pros

The job offers a lot of flexibility and the opportunity to work on interesting and important projects. Everyone I've worked with has been helpful and supportive, the company has a great culture.

      Cons

Distributed work takes some getting used to, and doesn't necessarily fit everyone's working style.

Great co-workers, but run by a narcissistic dictator and a toothless HR team

      Pros

      - Work from home perks are fantastic - Cover all medical premiums - Insurance is California-based, California has the best protections at the state level for requiring things be covered by insurance - Employee groups are fantastic - Other employees are wonderful, across the board - Hours are very flexible - Great place to work if you're looking to coast on a steady paycheck and not have any real career ambitions and be able to focus on your personal life

      Cons

Matthew. Every day you just hope he doesn't look in the direction of your team/project or else who knows what will happen. I've worked at startups before but never seen an environment where literally every "suggestion" or "thought" the CEO has suddenly must be done right this second. And there is no room for people to disagree. Discourse is "welcome" but that's because he assumes you will eventually see how he is right. Only yes-people survive and thrive here when you have to interact with Matt. Aside from that, there is no career growth (you are not told who your peers are, how your performance is assessed, or how you can progress to the next level). Pay is incredibly low for the US, it's better internationally but also many places you are a contractor and not eligible for other benefits. They "don't believe in levels" (which is a lie - new leads are congratulated, yet it's *not* a promotion cause they don't do promotions) Bottom line,

Benefits, excellent. Management, not so much

Aug 24, 2021 - Happiness Engineer in Rutland, VT

      Pros

Lots of perks and PTO (though scheduling it can be tricky.) Travel to cool locations a few times a year. Enthusiastic customers with interesting problems to help solve.

      Cons

Inexperienced, inconsistent, and unhappy team leads (becoming a lead comes with a lot of extra responsibility but no pay increase.) As a result, expectations, performance reviews, opportunities for growth or special project are handled in inequitable, inconsistent, and illogical ways, leading to a lot of discontent among leads and their team members, alike.

      Pros

Schedule flexibility, the people, the company mission & creed, the mission, and of course, it's fully distributed.

      Cons

Compensation can be quite a bit lower than other organizations.

      Pros

      - Amazing benefits package (in the US anyway) - Competitive salary - Room for growth - Travel! - Compassionate and conscientious leadership

      Cons

      - Can be a bit chaotic at times - Many lines of communication, you have to learn to filter it out - Need more people! I suppose that's also a pro (job security!)
