Pros

I have worked in a start up environment over the last decade, I can honestly say that this is the best work environment I have had the pleasure to be part of! -Every individual truly cares about our customers. We are here to make sure that we are providing top notch care to all creators/backers. It is incredibly important to do the right thing at BackerKit and make sure that the customers have nothing but a positive experience -It feels like an actual team, we are a team. We are all working towards making the company a better place for our customers and for ourselves -Flexible time off, BackerKit wants you to enjoy your life, so feel free to take that trip to Ibiza next fall with your family, because that time off is yours. But seriously, open vacation policy, as long as another member of your team doesn't have off the time is yours -Work life balance, I have worked for start ups who say this, but its real at BackerKit. Most employees get in just before 9am and then leave around 5pm. It is discouraged from staying late -Quarterly company off-sites! -Quarterly team outings (these are different) -Health insurance, 401k, snacks on snacks, catered lunch twice a week -Much much more

Cons

Overall BackerKit is great, if we are going to nitpick... -No 401k matching -No gym reimbursement

Pros

BackerKit is challenging, and requires an understanding of crowdfunding, shipping, data management, and fulfillment. Many campaigns are distinctly different from one another in the space, and come with their own needs and conditions. Sometimes projects are easy to work with, but sometimes they present great challenges that require creative solutions. I will say that some of the hardest work I've ever done has been at BackerKit, but much of it is work that I am proud of. Something strongly in BackerKit's favor is in its organization of teams. Although everyone at BackerKit focuses on their team's own distinct agenda and goals, many people work across teams to get things done. Communication is strong, and as a consequence we can solve a lot of problems together over the course of a single day. The work culture is great, too. There's a lot of background diversity at BackerKit, and people are happy to share their passions. Many people who work there are aspiring creators themselves, working on their own personal projects to make something great. The office is dog-friendly, and despite the stereotypes you hear about that, it actually works out really well.

Cons

Management of a successful campaign requires a dedication of attention and understanding of the core competency of the app's capabilities. Campaigns can come in all shapes and sizes, to varying degrees of complexity. Some teams require an interdisciplinary understanding of technologies and processes. Some aspects of campaign management can be very demanding, and require an immense amount of patience. In worst-case scenarios, this can lead to a lot of extra chores to bring an issue into alignment. Expectations are generally high, and it's important to take it upon yourself to seek help, if you need it.

Pros

Amazing culture. Fantastic people. Humble founders. BackerKit is an environment where it is accepted - nay, encouraged - to make mistakes, learn from them, and try new things to see if they work better! Almost every single person who works here knows how to check their ego at the door and collaborate to get work done. Great benefits: health, dental, vision, 401k with matching, commuter benefits, snacks, lunches, crowdfunding stipend, learning and development stipend, and profit-sharing. Compensation is not only competitive, but also adjusted based on performance and cost of living. Feedback is kind, frequent, honest, and always with the intention of helping each other work better. #radicalcandor No VC funding means we can expect slow, steady growth and stay a values-driven company.

Cons

Because the company is small and pretty tight-knit, I can understand how it might feel groupy at times. However, everyone is very friendly and accepting. Upper management could be better about communicating information to the company at large - however, I think this is a result of BackerKit's slow-and-steady approach to change. Working at such a small company (30-something as of early 2020) means your career advancement opportunities are somewhat limited. However, BackerKit offers the opportunity to build your skills in an awesome environment and to become an expert in the crowdfunding space.
