I have been working at Bench Accounting

      Pros

Focus on product, care about a holistic approach to ux, including copy and combining research and design, really integrating the two.

      Cons

Still figuring stuff out as a company, there's been a lot of changes lately it is probably largely positive but it has still caused some disconnect

I have been working at Bench Accounting full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Results-oriented in the best way possible. There's very little politics because it's all about how we can reach big goals together. Senior leadership is totally open to new ideas, new ways of doing things, and feedback. The people are also great. I can't think of a single unpleasant interaction I've had with any Bench employees. Our customers love us because we're solving something they hate. Our customer satisfaction...

      Cons

Things change quickly. Because of that, sometimes projects get shut down that seemed like a great idea a year ago. There have also been layoffs due to the fast-changing nature of the business. That can be stressful. The senior leadership team has also been a revolving door, but they keep promoting from within which is solid.

      Advice to Management

      Keep going.

I have been working at Bench Accounting full-time for more than a year

      Pros

      - You get to work from home - Good culture - Try their best to continuously improve

      Cons

      - The only complaint is that the salary is on the lower end (according to me).

I worked at Bench Accounting full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

Freedom, autonomy, the people you work with are all incredible, it really is the perfect entry-level post college job. You will learn how to interact with clients, manage a portfolio, make an impact, problem solve, etc. You realize once you leave how many amazing things you get at Bench and take for granted once you move on. There wasn't a single day I woke up and didn't feel like going to work. It's a truly wonderful...

      Cons

Everything is on fire at all times. In every department (I happened to touch many of them in my time there). I kind of loved the mess, but it can be a lot. The pay is abysmal (and a huge chunk of it is contingent on semi-performance/semi-luck factors) Enough to make every month a gamble whether you have disposable income or not. The turnover rate in the company is comical. I don't think I worked a week in my 14...

      Advice to Management

It's amazing that you're providing a space for entry-level people to get their feet wet in the workplace, but it's sad that you have these people who work for you, and despite the low pay, the messiness, the overload of work when compared to the pay, and the constant hits to morale, you have people who will still give an arm and a leg for Bench. You need to invest in these people more and not be so okay with letting...

I have been working at Bench Accounting full-time

      Pros

Great office culture and excellent co-workers, lots of room to grow within company if you're looking to fast track your career. Overall, a fun company to work for.

      Cons

Fast growth meant lots of shifts - shifts in culture, management, the product.... It gets exhausting and sometimes didn't feel completely transparent. That being said, we all have to start somewhere and learn as we go. Just make sure you're prepared for the ride!

      Advice to Management

If possible, provide more training for first time managers, focusing more on conflict resolution and actively supporting each team member

      Pros

      * Great people and learning opportunities * Supportive work environment * Cool office * Great benefits

I have been working at Bench Accounting full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

      - monthly wellness fund for fitness related things - certain team leads let you have a lot of freedom, you can work from home once a week - people are really nice to work with - office is in convenient downtown location

      Cons

      - you get moved around a lot - low wages for the client portfolio we have - poor management skills for team leads - they receive little to no training when they're promoted. - they put you on a team to become close to one another, then when upper management decides to add more teams you get moved with 2 days notice - work life balance - they promise it, and you'll get it 8 months of the year, but beware of 12 hour...

      Advice to Management

I'd tell upper management to give our team leads proper training. They rave about our wellness, but have implemented new 'variable pay' that is unachievable for the majority of AAs.

I worked at Bench Accounting full-time for more than 4 years

      Pros

      - Strong product which genuinely helps SMB's - Some great people working there - Solid if unremarkable benefits package

      Cons

      - Inconsistent management across many departments - No unified internal vision and messaging - A distinct lack of company culture - Poor base salaries compared to comparable roles within Vancouver market - Growth has stagnated due to high turnover

I worked at Bench Accounting full-time for more than 2 years

      Pros

      - You'll have the opportunity to meet some interesting people - Free beer and snacks - Probably a decent job for someone who just graduated looking for their first position

      Cons

      - Very low pay for the bookkeeping role. No pay for overtime. - Expectation to work long hours (9+ hours/day) to stay on top of work, which, once again, is unpaid. This is especially true during tax season and when you first start the job. - Super tedious and boring work - Inexperienced management. They like to experiment with ideas on how to solve problems within Bench, which sounds interesting until you realize they...

      Advice to Management

You're struggling to hire and retain employees. Instead of asking your sales team to leave positive glassdoor reviews and dictating Bench culture, focus your time to grow, train and nurture your employees so they'll want to stick around and grow the company. You have a solid product, but you need to solid team of people. Additionally, please have Ian practice his speeches so he doesn't just ramble incoherently for 30...
