Too overworked to benefit from any of the perks the company tries to offer.
Mar 14, 2023 - Enterprise Customer Success ManagerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Bluecore is a company that tries to take great care of their employees with fantastic benefits including unlimited time off, a fitness reimbursement program, a yearly learning reimbursement, many summer Fridays off, and more. In addition to that, they have a unique product that is trying to apply artificial intelligence in a manner that is truly useful to large retailers who really want the product to work.
Cons
During my time at Bluecore, I found myself unable to benefit from many of the perks the company tries to offer because our team was so overworked. It was common from the moment I joined to have 5 hours of meetings scheduled with no breaks in-between. In my opinion, this difficult schedule was a direct result of the Enterprise team’s inability to set any boundaries with its clients. The vision for the Enterprise Customer Success team, as described by the Vice President of CS all the way down, was that we as CSMs should suggest what marketing campaigns our clients should be adding to their email programs, provide mock ups of those campaigns, launch those campaigns on behalf of our clients, and then provide analytics and feedback back to the client on how those campaigns performed to show them we were providing value. While I can see how a client would deeply appreciate this level of service, it is effectively asking Bluecore’s internal CSM team to provide all the functions of a full consulting service, or in some cases to do the work of an external clients email marketing team for them, in addition to the standard work of a CSM (providing trainings, resolving product issues, troubleshooting bugs, introducing additional helpful features, etc). In attempting to provide this type of service to Bluecore’s customers, I became wildly overworked and overwhelmed from the moment I joined Bluecore’s team. It wasn’t long before I found myself working on the summer Friday’s they provided as off days, on nights, and over weekends. The Senior Enterprise CSM who was tasked with training me was a very kind, and capable professional. But that individual was overworked to the point of often not having time to answer my questions and help me settle in. They grew frustrated with my inability to catch up and understand everything over the time that I worked for the organization. In addition to these issues, my direct manager made it clear to me that the Enterprise clients we were working with were so important to Bluecore’s future growth, that we were never to deny requests that were made of our team by them. As a result of this policy, it became a common occurrence for my colleague and I to have 3 calls with a single client in a day to try and take care of the issues they wanted to address. For me, these policies resulted in the worst employment experience of my career. I left the company after working with them for less than a year because I was unwilling to continue sacrificing my home life while not benefitting from any of the perks that Bluecore supposedly offers. I would not recommend it. I did repeatedly speak about these issues with my direct manager. In those conversations, I was told that I should not be working nights and weekends. However, when it came time to ask how we can push back on client requests or set limits that would protect our time, the same manager would then say we must find a way to get the work done. This created an environment where it became clear to me that leadership spoke about work life balance, but was unwilling to take any actions or make any difficult decisions to actually protect it in the company. In addition to these issues, the Bluecore product shows promise, but is incredibly buggy. It was difficult to try to endlessly explain to clients why it wasn’t working, or not doing what it said it would do. However, the product issues do not compare to the culture of overwork that I experienced.

Interesting product, little career growth
Jan 15, 2023 - Anonymous EmployeeRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Interesting product and great insight into how it’s developed handled and improving.
Cons
- Very little, and I mean VERY little career growth/opportunities. Manager’s will talk to you about potential opportunities to fill up dead air but they never seem to come nor are goals ever seriously considered; It ends up feeling like you’re working towards nothing meaningful Product knowledge is laughably low amongst internal teams. Very little opportunity to learn about the product in meaningful ways, lots of tribal knowledge happening - Huge turnover across teams, which caused workload to double - Poor communication between teams causing friction with clients - Salary was not competitive. Unlimited pto and monthly stipend were cool but very little to offer otherwise. No matching 401k either - Management not really in tune with feedback coming from frontlines/clients - management favorites slip through the cracks leaving others to pick up the slack (especially with client communication)

Pros
Some very nice coworkers and work-life balance was pretty decent
Cons
Company just went through a second round of layoffs, letting go people who had been there for years. But the remaining recruiting team is still on LinkedIn posting how they are actively hiring for roles which feels like a slap in the face to people that were let go. Clearly the stability isn't there right now, so I wouldn't recommend someone who may happen to be interviewing there join right now. HR has also always been a disaster even before the layoffs. The VP was notoriously flaky and unreliable.

Great product, lack of opportunity

Strong product, great peers, decent pay/benefits, great PTO policy
Cons
Little opportunity for career advancement, poor communication across teams and management levels and managers value their favorite employees, while others are hung out to dry/get little recognition.

Would not recommend

Work from home, Bluecore overall has nice benefits and nice to haves while working like bonusly to thank coworkers If you network, you’ll meet some lifelong mentors and future coworkers.
Cons
Sdr team has been struggling for multiple years and hitting your number is almost unheard of. HR complaints aren’t taken seriously and management is quick to fire or put you on a performance improvement plan. Favoritism is rampant. If you’re just starting out in sales, this is not the place for you. There is no promotion path for overall career advancement. Very toxic and unprofessional in various situations, constantly will need to defend yourself as a worker.

Great company so far
Aug 9, 2022 - Sales Organization in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
- Remote-first workplace, fully remote is the default - employees have the option to in-person to the NYC office as often as they need/want but it's not expected - Genuinely great people to work with, felt welcomed since day one - Excellent pay, salary plus quarterly bonus commission - Monthly WFH stipend to use towards phone/internet/gym/computer accessories, etc - plus an additional stipend amount your first month to help get your home office set up - Leadership seems to actually care about their employees and takes their opinions into account when making decisions - Unlimited PTO, taking time off is actually encouraged and I have not been bothered once while on PTO - Excellent work/life balance
Cons
- No 401k matching, this is a real bummer - As a growing startup, lots of change happening every few months - need to learn to constantly adapt to a new strategy - No clear career path for advancement

Excellent Place to Work! Best product and even better people!!
Sep 8, 2022 - Sales in New York, NYRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Incredible team. The product is also great, but I would follow this team of talented people anywhere professionally. Most people in the organization truly care about each others success and are willing to go the extra mile to help peers and deliver a good customer experience.
Cons
Typical growing pains. New opportunities lead us into area where we dont have processes built yet, so have to fill those gaps with people. Luckily, culture is strong here and people like getting involved and helping

Cool product. Work from home. Unlimited PTO.
Cons
Made it really really hard to sell. Leadership was terrible and didn’t listen to challenges in the field. Pricing is a joke and difficult to come up with. Live and die by MEDDIC
