I worked at CCRi full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    * The people are fantastic - a smart, hard working, low ego group of folks who I honestly enjoyed spending time with each day. * The work is really interesting - solving open ended data-driven problems with balance of mature and bleeding-edge tools * The work / life balance is baked into the culture, and the company feels very tight knit, with various company events for sharing/learning, having fun together, etc. *...

    Cons

    * The company grew quickly, and as a result, there were sometimes questions as to "who should I go to for this?" or "what should I work on now?". It was never egregious, and I've heard it's improved considerably. * A lot of the work was in the defense space, which brings its own cons (e.g. long delivery cycles). There were certainly various non-defense projects, and I never felt that the type of work being done there...

I worked at CCRi full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of smart people, good pay, nice place to live, mostly interesting work. Lots of leeway to make things happen if something isn't up to your standards. Overall just a very good place to work.

    Cons

Non-engineering skills are undervalued by those running the company, and the employees suffer for it sometimes. In particular the top people are good engineers and scientists but mostly mediocre managers, but aren't the kind of people that are willing to relinquish control and focus on strengths. Also the company has evolved so that there is no common set of goals that leadership is likely to ever agree on.

    Advice to Management

Sharpen the goals for the company and find a away to manage to those goals. Make them clear to employees. All-encompassing goals like "do cool work" are not good enough.

I have been working at CCRi full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Make prototypes of bleeding edge technology. Very flexible working hours, reasonable working hours (no burn-out culture). Hiring practices make for very pleasant colleagues and work environment.

    Cons

Best for individuals that are willing to take on multiple roles, ranging from software engineering to dev ops to proposal writing. Limited uncleared job opportunities.

I worked at CCRi full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I stayed at CCRi for 4.5 years for the engaging projects, amazing culture, and comradery. I took extensive time off during my career to go on long vacations and never felt like my career or progress was hurt because of it.

    Cons

I left because I felt like I had moved away from engaging work and onto a few dead end government contracts. Everyone has the title Data Scientist, but a huge proportion of those people are actually software engineers. At times staffing was done not to align your skills to a project, but to just fully staff a project. In general, there are opportunities for serious Machine Learning, but it often felt like it was left...

I have been working at CCRi full-time for more than a year

    Pros

There is never a shortage of friendly, intelligent, and ambitious people at CCRi. The amenities and environment are laid back and very friendly, but there is never a shortage of tough problems to solve. There is such a variety of projects going on at any given time that you can find something interesting to work on if you look hard enough. The pay is hourly which means two things; they try very hard to maintain reasonable...

    Cons

CCRi has been growing and is still getting the hang of operating like a company larger than a lean startup. It is small and extremely flexible, and it expects employees to be flexible as well even if that means stepping far outside of your comfort zone (which could also be construed as a pro - I have grown a lot because of opportunities like this).

I have been working at CCRi full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Collegiate, friendly atmosphere. Lots of fellow geeks interested in solving really challenging problems. Diverse educational backgrounds. Small company atmosphere. Many fun non-work related activities.

    Cons

Organizational growing pains like the need to add management or even the dreaded "middle management" type roles but will hopefully figure out how to do it without ruining the small business atmosphere.

I have been working at CCRi full-time

    Pros

    * flat corporate structure * flexibility to move around projects or try different things * awesome people to work with * flexible hours

    Cons

    * company is growing fast, growing pains * it can be hard to get access to common resources (ui, devops)

    Advice to Management

    * do a better job allocating teams according to individual strengths -- data scientists aren't the best at making ui's or doing devops

I have been working at CCRi full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Friendly, brilliant coworkers all around you all the time. I personally value keeping my programming skills and domain knowledge sharp and relevant over almost anything else. Continued education is folded into every task I am given. It's unlikely to work at CCRi and not learn new things. Projects are interesting and typically incredibly challenging. You can choose whether to work on pure research projects or application...

    Cons

Long, long hours, endless deadlines. Clients tend to continuously demand back to back deadlines leaving us little to no breathing room. It's overwhelming sometimes. Can be stressful. Only way to meet deadlines is to work 60 hour weeks. On the plus side, you get paid proportionally to what you put in. Bonuses also help! The company has recently grown quite a bit and a new structural hierarchy is beginning to emerge....
