Pros
-Culture/coworkers: some of the most supportive and intelligent coworkers I've ever worked with. People give each other justified/warranted shout outs for good work, but not in an overkill manner where it creates toxic positivity. -Unlimited PTO actually means unlimited PTO and no guilt trip - your team steps up to make sure you can stay unplugged. -Competitive salary: competitive with other SF-based companies -Ability to grow: I was hired to do something pretty niche, but have been able to expand my role to encompass other parts of the business that I was interested in and have been able to grow with support from my teammates and manager/skip level manager. -Fulfilling mission: after working at other companies that were just money-hungry, even at the expense of the consumer, it accelerated my burnout. But I feel that the mission helps keep me passionate and engaged since part of the job is thinking about user psychology around mental health. -Perks: it's not as amazing as other companies (e.g. monthly lunch/coffee stipends, gym pass, etc.), but considering that some companies are rolling back these benefits in this economy, Calm has kept their stipends (cell phone, internet, wellness) and allowed a one-time refresh of WFH stipend for existing employees. -Leadership team has been becoming more transparent with company plans and actively solicits feedback on improving communication with larger team.
Cons
-No 401K match -Double-edged sword of remote work: they're remote-first and have deprecated any type of physical office, so it's easy to feel disconnected from your team members. Some teams do offsites throughout the year in addition to the one annual company-wide offsite, but it's not required of all teams. It would be nice for all teams to have at least 1 offsite per quarter or 6 months that allows you to spend more time with your individual team since the company offsite can become overwhelming and busy. -Team can be more diverse
