I worked at Calpine full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed the first 8 years most within the Construction Management group, where I had the ability to travel and Administratively assist during the building of new projects.

    Cons

After 18 years of dedicated service, and although offered severance, I feel I was separated from the company unfairly.

I have been working at Calpine full-time

    Pros

Good benefits and decent pay. Probably lower pay than surrounding plants.

    Cons

Constant change in management, now acquisition has everyone concerned.
Won't spend any money, just run to fail mentality.

    Advice to Management

Spend some money and fix your equipment, please.

I have been working at Calpine full-time

    Pros

Decent pay and good health insurance

    Cons

Over worked, no such thing as "work life balance"constantly reducing staff but yet requiring more out of those that are left, will work you non stop until you either quit or have a heart attack. More than two people I know have had heart attacks while working there because of the stress

    Advice to Management

Stop taking advantage of your people and start appreciating them.

    Cons

working for corporate offices and executives not located in this area sometimes brings a disconnect between corporate initiatives and procedures and what we think works best here.

I have been working at Calpine full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Fast paced, flexible hours and friendly atmosphere . There is a lot of training via web ex so travel is reduced . I attribute my success to having been on many committees allowing my input to shape others in a positive way. There are seasoned coworkers who gladly help out and advice is just a call away to another plant.

    Cons

You will feel overloaded at times mainly due to the staffing which is rigid. It's a fast pace environment during the 1st 16 days which means your vacations are after the 15th of the month.

    Advice to Management

    9/80 work schedule where possible

I worked at Calpine full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Health care benefits are pretty darn good?

    Cons

This is what happens you run a company without a soul. Calpine is not a company that lives by the same values that it pushes down our throats.

    Advice to Management

Just be honest. Let people know that they mean nothing. Let them know that you don't actually care about safety. or integrity or esprit d'core. Let them know that you think they are robots with a serial number. At least that way they can make the proper secondary plans.

Oh...and do yourselves the favor. Make a movement to get rid of Thad Hill. That guys is sinking this ship.
