    Pros

I enjoyed the first 8 years most within the Construction Management group, where I had the ability to travel and Administratively assist during the building of new projects.

    Cons

After 18 years of dedicated service, and although offered severance, I feel I was separated from the company unfairly.

I worked at Calpine full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

the group of people i worked with couldn't have been better we were all a great team who got things done at our facility we were a family

    Cons

no one knows what the other is doing or if its even done correctly site to site polices and procedures are always being updated but not passed along from corporate to all sites communication is just non existent and if you are not part of the good ol boy club then you just do not exist as an employee you are honestly just a number

    Advice to Management

start doing what is right for the plants and people and stop worrying about pleasing corporate and meeting that bottom line or saving that all mighty dollar just to slide it in your pocket later you have to spend money to make money and sometime you have to spend it all

    I worked at Calpine full-time

    Pros

    - Solid pay and benefits
    - Dedicated and intelligent peers
    - You'll feel critically vital to the success of Calpine (until they say you aren't)

    Cons

    - Every day is stressful. I like a dynamic environment but I never knew if/when I was going to be considered hero or a zero based solely on the shifting sentiments of those above me.

    - It is a 24/7 job. You will wake up and check your email before getting out of bed, you'll check your email before going to bed, and you'll check it all day long. You have to because you will go from Hero to Zero if you miss anything

    - Frequent, small layoffs which are typically based on politics.

    - The review process is a joke.
    - Real promotions are rare. Sometimes people get shuffled but rarely does that cross organizational boundaries. In other words, career growth is limited.

    Advice to Management

The management doesn't want advice. My advice to candidates is this: if you need a job and Calpine is the best you can do, take it by all means but have an exit strategy in mind.
