I worked at Carleton College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I've had 4 campus jobs while at Carleton and loved all of the except for working at the dining hall! Supervisors mostly work with you to schedule decent hours; I was almost always able to get 10 hours a week. If you can avoid good working for food services freshman year, you've got it made.

    Cons

Food services is not the most glamorous job, but even then, supervisors are awesome.

I have been working at Carleton College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You get paid double the campus wage for teaching courses, you can choose whether to do homework or climb during your shifts

    Cons

You have to walk to the rec which can be a pain during the winter, the air conditioner makes your hands freeze if you aren't climbing which makes typing difficult

    Advice to Management

Knock down the squash court adjacent to the bouldering cave and expand the cave; the former is infrequently used by a couple people, whereas the latter frequently fills to capacity

I have been working at Carleton College part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great professors - collaborating with them and learning about their research is awesome.

    Cons

As a student worker, you're not paid much.

I have been working at Carleton College part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Carleton is generally a pretty chill and flexible employer. I have held multiple campus jobs as a student, and they are never too strict as long as you have a decent performance.

    Cons

I cannot think of many cons. If I have to say one, it would be the competitiveness of jobs, but maybe that's just because I have applied to many random jobs and gotten more rejections.

    Advice to Management

I am overall grateful for the supervisors I have had. Maybe one suggestion would be to move the hour reporting form online (the yellow sheet you use when you forget to report your hours on the hub)

I have been working at Carleton College (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great job to brush up on CS knowledge

    Cons

No cons really. Maybe low pay.

I have been working at Carleton College (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are many options for students who choose to find a job on campus. Generally, supervisors are (and are required to be) very understanding of academic commitments that may interfere with student employment.

    Cons

The hourly wage for students is quite low, and students are limited to working 10 hours per week, with some rare exceptions.

    Advice to Management

Ten hours per week at the student wage is not enough to make a meaningful difference in tuition, for most students.

I have been working at Carleton College part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The sense of community is incredible, and it's easy to feel like you're doing good work. The area (northfield) is gorgeous, also.

    Cons

The only con I can think of is that you won't want to leave. I can't imagine working with such supportive people anywhere else.

    Advice to Management

Carleton College is a gem. Please, please, never sell that gem. Keep to Carleton's core values, support quirkiness and the pursuit of happiness, and continue to stand by the pillars of liberal arts educations.

I worked at Carleton College full-time

    Pros

High academic standards, inspiring leadership, beautiful campus, competitive salaries for most positions

    Cons

Difficult to attain longer tenure unless one fits in with the culture, meets high (sometimes quite biased) expectations and performance evaluations, and 'goes along with the flow' politically. Lack of transparency and communication in various management positions.

    Advice to Management

Be communicative, transparent, and open to healthy criticism. Performance evaluations should go both ways.
