I worked at Catalina full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Access to robust data provides great insight into consumer shopping behavior
    - Flexible schedule depending on which department and who you report to
    - You learn something new everyday

    Cons

Catalina used to be a great company. The people were incredible and so bright. New ideas were openly embraced and everyone was pulling in the same direction. Everything changed about 5 years ago when the company shifted to an omni-channel approach. This was great and huge and we were all in but then a team was assigned and locked away and the rest of the company was in the dark. The team that was assigned was knowledgeable in their area but lacked a holistic view and didn't want to be bothered with understanding 25 years of company knowledge. Tenure which was once a badge of honor suddenly became a target on your back. Your knowledge was disregarded, your offer to help was considered intrusive and you were considered a naysayer when you tried to provide suggestions on obvious gaps. It became an us against them mentality and terms like "logic has left the building" and "we are just running around with knives in the dark" became your new reality. It's absolutely heartbreaking to watch a company that you literally put blood, sweat and tears into slowly disintegrating.

    Advice to Management

I would say, listen to your tenured employees but the majority of them are gone so I'm going to go with this...take a look at what is bombing your business (follow the money) and you will find that the same people are still leading the projects that are still bombing. You want these to be your next gen company leaders but they are not because they do not see the business holistically. You cannot survive when leaders are in silos and have no desire to change their perspective to a horizontal landscape. I hope you can make changes to turn the business around. We are all still rooting for you even after our final exit.

    Pros

Great company in their hey day early 2000’s

    Cons

Missed the boat ... because of mis-management many many employees lost jobs ... now they bought offices in Costa Rica to try and save money and the company.

    Pros

Behaviorally targeted marketing is an interesting value proposition. The company has a meaningful niche that has served it well over the years

    Cons

Its paper-passed coupon legacy is making it hard to remain relevant in customers eyes. Result has been a lot of downsizing, with many good hard working people paying the price. Employee beware

    Pros

Flexible PTO - if you can get your boss to approve it
    Onsite Cafeteria
    Fitness Center
    Average Industry Pay
    Continuing Education and Certification support

    Cons

Uncertain future - leads to a "walking on eggshells" type of environment. Huge changes and financial uncertainty leads to a lot of rumors.
WAAAAAAY too heavy on layers of leadership, too many cooks in the kitchen. Needs to flatten out and have many more "worker bees" in comparison to directors.
Moved many jobs to internal but overseas and also outsourced
Lack of upward movement or promotion ability, once you are hired you are kind of put into a silo and kept there.

    Advice to Management

Hoping the restructuring will help the organization, levels need to flatten out and some type of reassurance needs to happen so people don't feel like they might be next on the chopping block.
Maybe consider moving to remote-first? Seems like the culture around the building is a little depressing, take a queue from companies that have a flexible small office to utilize for meetings but allow their employees to work remotely. If we are migrating to a "tech and data" focused platform, this might help attract the right candidates and employees.

    Really Nice Building.

    Cons

Lots of change at a very rapid pace. It may be what is necessary, but if you get frustrated easily by change - this place isn't for you.
