I have been working at Cobham full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people are great. My coworkers make the day enjoyable.

    Cons

The amount of red tape necessary to get funding approved for technology development is ridiculous

    Advice to Management

Lean out the process... not all Cobham companies are the same. Don't hinder your best performing companies because of the mistakes of the poor performers.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Cobham full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Reasonable benefits although health insurance has been reduced from the prior option of using the local Kaiser HMO complex. Many good employees and the opportunity for hands on work with the hardware and to make some improvements at the individual level without out multilevel approvals. Some intelligent modernization of process equipment and test software improves productivity.

    Cons

Mired in the bureaucracy of dense contractor customers. Many problems engendered by a succession of corporate buy outs and bankruptcy continue to fester. Most engineers move on after a few years as there is little technical growth potential. Location avoids some of the worse commuting obstacles common for the area, but housing costs are high even for California metro areas. The design group has diminished.

    Advice to Management

Provide support for improving the work load.

I have been working at Cobham full-time

    Pros

Beats unemployment. Bought me time in NH.

    Cons

Caes is a mess. No direction frm CFO. He is a pompous bully. The VP has less of a clue and has not been value add. She has no interpersonal skills, she talks in circles, gives women a bad name. If you like chaos, disorder, and no future this is for you. Just when I thought the old VP was bad, they hire a worse one. No retention bonus can keep me here.

    Advice to Management

No amount of leadership training in DC can help. helped in the decision to get out. having leadership that is cold with no vision and strategy are Not strengths.

The company does seem to have quite a few turnovers, but it was mainly because the amount of workload that was expected of you.

I worked at Cobham full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Self-Direction, Trust, Meaningful, Important, Interesting, and Challenging Work.
I really enjoyed my end users. My relationship with management was honest and based on trust and common purpose and we delivered consistently. Anything SAP/BI I had interest in I had access to. If you've got talent and you're hungry for growth and development, SAP at Cobham offered opportunity unavailable anywhere else. I left Cobham a seasoned professional with experience well beyond my years. I reflect fondly on my time and recommend my position.

    Cons

IT needed more capital spend. I remember instances where I wanted to do innovative things and go to the next level, and there just wasn't any cash. If there was cash it went to compliance initiatives and while important, compliance is well...kinda dull.

    Advice to Management

More IT capital budget and interesting IT projects will attract talent that wants to do cool IT things.
The high performers in the organization need better defined career paths and real upward mobility.
