    I worked at Cohu full-time

    Pros

Challenging due to the diversity of product lines and the fact that the company is spread world wide.

    Cons

I worked at Cohu for nearly 27 years and the only downside is that it has switched it's focused from being an employee focused company to a bottom-line company.

    Advice to Management

Be ready to be challenged at every corner since it's speed that counts.

I worked at Cohu full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Onsite Cafeteria is just about the only Pro. Everything else seems like it was a daily grind.

    Cons

Management is probably the biggest concern here. They will do layoffs every 6 months, so the employees are CONSTANTLY worried if their name is next on the list. The IT dept has some ok folks there, others seem to be waaay in over their head. The computers in the environment are older than my grandmother and are just as slow. If you like to spend half your morning waiting to boot into the your old crappy lenovo, this place is perfect. Hopefully things have changed since I have been there. The environment and culture gave you a feeling of 'I can't stand this place anymore' and everyone around all the departments seem to have the same feeling. I wouldnt go back even if they tripled my salary.

    Advice to Management

Give the employees a sense of belonging and a sense of stability. Everything comes from the top down.

I have been working at Cohu full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The people at this company genuinely look out for each other, they are good people. The people want the remaining talented people to stay.

    Cons

The company has focused on outsourcing every department in their US headquarters to foreign countries. Good people are leaving in waves between the recent layoffs every couple months. The company has not communicated to employees their goals & direction for the company. The corporate level has ignored & been unresponsive to the recommendations & requests of management.

    Advice to Management

Keep pressing Corporate to inform the employees of the direction they are taking the company & what their goals are.

I have been working at Cohu full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Cohu SEG is a challenging environment that is successfully competing in a global market. The company has a remarkable number of highly educated, experienced, motivated employees. Cohu offers above average benefits, competitive compensation. The company has a well established customer base and aggressively pursues opening new market opportunities. Historically, market share has expanded and should continue to expand as new products are introduced.

    Cons

Cohu SEG competes in the difficult semiconductor test industry which has changed from a specialty oriented market to a commodity oriented market over the past 10 years. This condition has influenced the management to try to run too lean and to off shore manufacturing operations. At the US operation, there are too few support workers for the number of managers. An overly complex one size fits all inflexible ERP tool was implemented in 2013 that remains incompatible with the needs of the engineering and manufacturing departments. Emphasis has been placed on initial product cost. Time to market has replaced quality as priority. Introduction of product features has replaced reliability as priority. Layoff and turnover rates have increased as a result.

    Advice to Management

Simplify user tools and flatten the management structure in order to reduce the cost of doing business rather than trying to cheapen the products. Emphasize product quality and customer satisfaction as priorities.
