I worked at CoreCivic full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The CEO is down to earth, friendly and relatable. You don’t get that often.

    Cons

Some people have nothing to do all day, and the others get to make up for that by doing double the work.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your subordinates when they come to you with an issue.
Distribute work fairly and don’t let it all fall on to the one responsible person in the department. You’ll drive away the good ones by doing that.

I have been working at CoreCivic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Pay- Better than local area.

PTO- Good amount of PTO to use throughout the year.

Overtime- If you want the hours, they for sure are there.

Uniform Allowance- $250 for first time use/ $150 for each year afterwards. Shirts, Pants, Utility Belts, but no boots.

Advancement- With the turnover rate, it's very easy to move on up or transfer to another facility with 6 months experience.

Posts- Every facility is different, but you can apply to work various posts within the facility that aren't just working the floor. Inmate transport, programs, medical, and more.

    Cons

Work/Life Balance- Only if there was one With the overtime how it is, that won't change for a while.

Overtime- Like I said it's there, but they will have you stay almost everyday.

Leadership- Some are just ridiculous, they will not want to be bothered by you, will show favoritism towards overtime and posts.

Additional Bonuses- Will not give you anything extra if you are a trainer or tactical team.

Policies- Continue to change all the time.

Guard Findings- At-least for my facility, CoreCivic will get fined for pretty much anything that the advisers (the contract auditors) will find. Don't end up that person that costs the company money. You will get in trouble.

Turnover Rate- Officers either leaving for better opportunities or just being fired.

    Advice to Management

I'm sure you already know that most of your facilities have issues, but it seems like nothing is being done. So what's the point of any advice for you?

I have been working at CoreCivic full-time

    Pros

You receive one meal per shift. Reportedly, there are mice and roaches in the kitchen though. What a way to spice up your free lunch!

    Cons

Where shall I start? There is mandatory overtime. Sometimes, officers work over 10 days straight, 16 hour shifts. Management is not supportive, biased, unfair, unethical, unprofessional, and plays favorites. Average turnover is one month. In summary, don't work here.

    Advice to Management

Listen to constructive criticism versus being frozen in the "this is how we've always done things" approach. You may learn something.

I have been working at CoreCivic full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good pay and decent benefits

    Cons

No work-life balance because of mandation
Drama because of cliques - causes favoritism when it comes to mandations and problems
Extra dangerous environment because of high turn over rate and being so low on staff that everyone is burnt out
Higher ups don’t come when you call for them most of the time, no support

    Advice to Management

Take better care of your people.

I have been working at CoreCivic full-time

    Pros

Amazing pay, and benefits over time. You work with a diverse group of professionals.

    Cons

Lots of old, broken, and lazy staff. Staff often call off on weekends. Staff also do the bare minimum and allow a lot of mishaps to happen that led to overtime.

    Advice to Management

Hold staff accountable for missed hours. Keep staff on their jobs at all times.

    Pros

It is a fast-paced and never a boring moment.

    Cons

Very few at site location level are dedicated. Most rely on others to complete their jobs, everyone seems unhappy. Promises are made but are not kept and the pay is horrible.
