I worked at Croda full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Good benefits, pretty good salary

    Cons

Stuck in the past, "we've always done it this way" mentality. My manager was too arrogant to consider any ideas but his own. Wants to control every step and every decision, but not be responsible. "lets have another meeting" should be their moto. No wonder things don't get done timely. Project Engineering, Process Engineering, Planning, Reliability Engineering and Human Resources are a revolving door, no one stays more than a year or so. There's a reason! Almost feels like that is how Managers justify their positions and try to keep their jobs, always recruiting and training another replacement.

    Advice to Management

Let experienced Engineers do their jobs or hire very inexperienced Engineers to just process the paperwork and run errands for Managers. Too cozy with the same contractors and engineering firms that are taking advantage. You want to save money? Shop around for other contractors! Safety issues are not handled urgently. Managers, in general, are too worried about keeping their jobs instead of doing their jobs.

I have been working at Croda full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay and benefits; great direction and coaching from direct managers and team members

    Cons

Lack of involvement in decision making process. Upper management commercial expectations and policies make it hard to do business

    Advice to Management

Upper management should engage with staff and adapt expectations to the various markets and not just focusing on expectations of the PC side

    Pros

Good salaries, competitive time off balances.

    Cons

The management can be a bit ridiculous. Decisions made with little to no input from those it directly affects.

I have been working at Croda full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great corporate culture. Very global. A "boutique" chemical company with highly speciality products.

    Cons

    Slow to make necessary changes.

    Advice to Management

    Listen more to regional management.

I worked at Croda full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are good and pay is alright. People that have made it to the top are ok leaders.

    Cons

There was so much expected out of the sales team. Numbers they knew we couldn't reach, and visits that were not able to be made. Most people get burned out, making for turnover at the bottom.

    Advice to Management

Training is key. If you trained everyone they would be able to keep up with your expectations more.

    Pros

People, team work, everyone works together to get the job done in a professional manner. No stress. People are willing to teach you and always answer your questions.

    Cons

Nothing that I can think of, just do your work and always show enthusiasm and you will find all the support you need.

I have been working at Croda full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people are enjoyable. There is a sense of comradory in the stress level. The operators are also great to work with.

    Cons

Not sure why the stress level is what it is. Always watching to see if you will be fired. Dictatorship mentality from upper management.

    Pros

Had very intelligent and decent colleagues. They were willing to help you and provide expertise when propmted. Gradute Trainee program was an extremely positive experience especially within Marketing, SHE, and the R&D labs. Also, had great experiences with contractors and operators. Overall, a good experience I am thankful to have encountered.

    Cons

Always have the fear of being fired. Poor work/life balance. Unrealistic expectations from management (ie. No reward for going the extra mile but chastised if you only fulfill your obligations). Poor management culture that had been rewarded. Engineers are not valued due to high profit margins.

    Advice to Management

The constant fear of being fired may get you more productivity in the short-term but will ultimately only breed low morale, dissatisfaction, and high turnover. Find a way to make room for employees to thrive rather than for ways to point the finger and save yourself. You cannot expect to have any company loyalty from young, talented engineers if this culture persists. No long term viability or knowledge transfer without seasoned successors.
