Detector Inspector reviews

As soon as you walk in the door, you think the place is all smiles until you realise that the opportunities are thin, executive management reeks of entitlement and your workload will constantly increase without compensation or acknowledgment for your hard work. Time and time again they will prove that the disrespect shown to you is completely okay and regardless of bringing up your concerns, they will gaslight you into believing that you are overthinking the situation or that it might just be your fault. If you ever have raised sexist or bullying behaviour with LITERALLY any other HR department, a reasonable workplace would look into the concerns and ensure the outcome is productive, not at Detector Inspector. Detector Inspector staff will raise numerous complaints against sexism and bullying and instead of the staff member getting a warning, or after numerous complaints getting let go, they will give them a pat on the back and a pay rise to go with it. In order for you to be 'seen' by management, you either need to bow down to them and have a terrible work/life balance or be a male. The responses from Detector Inspector acknowledge the rapid growth of the company as if this was not shown to the office staff on a slideshow, clearly discussed and projected and as if the issues raised in previous reviews were not an issue before this, newsflash, it was. Please do not insult me or others who have had clear mistreatment shown to them with generic responses from someone who has not been a part of the company long enough to see the genuine issues. Also please do not insult me by responding to this review. I know my experience and I acknowledge the experiences of others here and no response to this will change the experiences we have had, it is incredibly dismissive. I also know that all these reviews won't change anything but out of principle, if someone was wondering if this is a place to grow and develop in, the answer is no. For your own sanity, just don't do it.

Absolute horrible workplace culture! After working in the office for 6 months I took an apprentice electrician role thinking I would be able to advance my career and finally get my life back on track. Unfortunatly in the end the role felt like a massive scam and overall I was being used as cheap labour and an easy cash in from the government to put on apprentices and It only left me in debt. - I spent days having to train some their electricians on how to do smoke alarm services. -In the beginning I was promised by multiple people I would be working local to my area that they would buddy me up with someone near by to make work easier. When I finally got paired with someone to do the "further works" work they lived an hour away from where I did and we often had to travel much further away to where our jobs were, It turned a 9 hour day into a 13 hour day and burnt a seriouse hole in my pocket in fuel/car expenses. When i raised the issue I was made to feel like I was being a nuisance and causing them problems. - When I was offered the position I was also told that the company pays for all trade school and text books upfront however when I got my contract it said we wouldn't get reimbursed until we completed the course. - Worked with people who didn't know how to Identify asbestos and would proceed to drill into it with zero saftey gear. - Worked with people who have apparently reported asbestos and still had to finish the job - The office gets overall photos of switchboards before sending out further works crews to work on it and should be able to see if looks like it contains asbestos BEFORE approving work to be done. If anything looks suspicious it should be tested regardless to ensure saftey of the electricians and the tenant. It feels criminal that this doesn't happen. - Saftey isn't taken seriously - had to drive un-roadworthy cars accross Melbourne. When I asked for a different car I was told no. - Worked with electricains making bonus's for smashing targets well beyond expectations but as an Apprentice on minimum wage I made nothing extra but was doing more work then expected. This felt like my work was un-appreciated and I was just being used a cheap labour. - Zero recognition for training the elecs to do smoke services as I previously was a smoke contractor for this company. - Taken away from doing actual electrical work to do smoke services that was on electricians days because they weren't train for it. - They use terrible systems for doing your timesheet which often doesn't save or upload. This lead to a threatning message in a group chat that we wont get paid if we don't upload our time sheet daily however I told them they should fix the issue with the system before threatening people they wouldn't be paid an I got a really abusive phone call from a manager telling me to "Shut the f up and i'm lucky to still have a job". - It's no encouraging to see so many electricians coming and going shortly after joining this company. I could keep going but I think you get the picture. This company doesn't care about you they only care about money and I knew I wasn't going to get the quality of training that would make me a great electrician when my apprenticeship ended. I had to take a trade support loan to help me get through the minimum wage while trying to live in Melbourne and after 5 months of the most mediocre training i've ever recieved and I called it quits. Unfortunatly this meant I was now in debt 3.5k-4k that I recieved from the government to survive the low wages. Wasn't worth it at all! Do yourself a favour and just avoid this company!
