I have been working at Devcon Construction full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefit, good colleagues, good boss. A lot of people work here for more than 10 years because of the good benefit.

    Cons

Protocols were not set company wise so sometimes you need to understand the needs from different project managers to satisfy them.

I have been working at Devcon Construction full-time

    Pros

Willing to work with your schedule, as long as you show you're willing to put in time for your work when it counts.

    Cons

Tend to work long hours during crunch time, but when do you not with most companies?

I worked at Devcon Construction full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are some truly great people working for Devcon.
Lots of responsibility is given to individuals as well as lots of opportunity to advance from entry-level to mid-level (field engineer to project manager).
If you like to party, Devcon does throw some great parties.
People often feel like they are family at Devcon.
    Great profit sharing.
Great salaries as long as you fight hard for your worth and don't think too hard about the many many extra hours you put in.

    Cons

    No support for work/life balance.
They really under-staff projects and so working very late, skipping lunches, and working on weekends is considered absolutely normal.
You need to know your worth and fight very hard for a proper salary. They may pay well if you can be knowledgeable, firm, and confident through their bullsh*t trying to blow off your request.
There is no real HR department. That side of the company is very underdeveloped, especially for its size.
Stingy with time off and deters people from taking their time off, especially in anything more than day-long increments.
Some great superintendents are not treated right or given the normal benefits like a truck or invites to the company trips.
No support for pursuing LEED accreditation.

    Advice to Management

Put your money where your mouth is and show that you actually care about your employees by properly staffing projects. Projects are still done well and on-time because there are some incredibly hard workers in your ranks. Treat them right and make sure they aren't working so many extra hours. Put more people on their projects.
Create a real HR department and take sexual harassment reports very seriously. Provide more paid time off earlier into people's careers.
Project Managers & Sr. Project Managers: please look out for your field and project engineers and make sure they are being paid properly. Don't let them be taken advantage of!

I have been working at Devcon Construction full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are great, you're thrown into the fire so you learn a lot extremely quickly, and perks (tickets, parties, etc are great) are great add-ons. The work is fun and the company culture is very supportive. Devcon has a GREAT name in the industry. Known to be cowboys, but they get the job done well.

    Cons

Hours are long, stressful and the work never ends. Teams are lean and often the support isn't there.

    Advice to Management

Let your employees telecommute a few days a week or work more flexible hours. As long as the work gets done, it really shouldn't matter where it happens.

I have been working at Devcon Construction full-time

    Pros

Devcon is definitely a work hard/ play hard company. We have great company trips and Christmas parties. People are fun to work with. I enjoy working on all stages and sides of a project instead of only working on one aspect of a project (ie. estimating, BIM, etc.). A lot of promotions come from within the company. The benefits and profit sharing are excellent.

    Cons

Jobs are often understaffed, and work hours can be long.

    Advice to Management

Especially with all the technology we have to keep us connected, I'd like to see more flexibility given to employees for where they work and for how many hours they put in. It's not just about the hours you sit at a desk.

I have been working at Devcon Construction full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fun group of people. Work very hard, play very hard environment

    Cons

People are spread too thin and are overworked. Everything is a fire drill. The company can´t find experienced managers for hire. When new managers come on board, they usually freak out over the workload and quit.

    Advice to Management

Need to acknowledge that people have families/lives outside of work

    Pros

Fabulous benefits , competitive compensation, and great people to work with. Plus, there's an attached gym for employees, and weekly CrossFit classes are offered. Also, the location is pretty convenient -- right off the freeway and there are tons of restaurants less than 10 minutes away.

    Cons

It's a typical office environment so there's a rigid schedule to stick to, and the dress code is pretty standard (business casual), although jeans are allowed on Friday. Plus, it's a VERY demanding environment (just the nature of the construction industry, unfortunately) and a lot of employees tend to work long days and hours.

    Advice to Management

Upper management should make it a point acknowledge and appreciate ALL levels of staff (admins, IT department, warehouse workers, etc.), not just the project managers and other senior staff.
