I worked at Disco full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Easy work if you blend in
Warm and fuzzy feeling until to you realize the myth

    Cons

This company is clearly completely lost in a dichotomy. It talks, it asks its employees to improve, to do more with less, to innovate and to change. It cannot raise its sleepy head high enough to see over the desk.

Company relies on outdated Japanese modalities - Kizuki is the primary example. This is an idea and is supposed to be a better way of doing things. The verb "kizuku" to sense, realize, notice...is sadly exactly the opposite of what this company does. The idea is to effect change, get closer to Utopia what is Japanese culture is referred to as Ikkyu. The company pointedly then does the reverse...they rely on their sleeping giant status of market leader and have rampant communication and deliverable issues primarily related to their lack of information systems internally and what can only be described as a critically "lost in translation" epic failure to be able to act at the speed of the market. They build tools, lots, they last, relatively long, so this boring behavior of just continuuosly making the same thing over and over again and getting away with not able to support customers and so slow to react to anything is what every company does at the pinnacle before their decline. It will be punishing in this case when they are overtaken by competitor or raider, and wake up and go how did this happen?

Cannot own their own mistakes and lost in superiority of their technology which is fading as fast as the shrinking line width and substrate can take it. Approacjing the molecular limits of silicon...all the hard work of bleeding the genetration of equipment is done front-end on ever thinner wafers and exceeded thermal budgets. All Disco has to do is find a way to cut wafer die with a laser or blade without killing yield. Soon...very soon.

    Advice to Management

Enjoy your sleep while your competitors overtake you...Saru mo ki kara ochiru!!!

I have been working at Disco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Open to new ideas, eagerly investing in new projects or individuals willing to try something new. Great place to start a career and build new business ideas without the risk of doing it on your own.

    Cons

Very bureaucratic. Despite the venture-esque attitude above, after giving funding projects out they often lack the management experience to allow autonomy where it is needed. Micromanagement kills the creative spirit, then responsibility is not taken for decisions made by the higher ups and blame is passed back down to project managers as seen by several nationals around me.

    Advice to Management

Take risks, care about your employees growth and well being. Investing more in your employees is essential if you ever want to keep the right people here.

I have been working at Disco full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

work-life balance is great but not so many chance for ambitious employees. This is a 5 years old company in Taiwan, many things are still in motion. But personally I think it can do better, both in direction and speed.

    Cons

Finding solution to problems at customer site is our daily job function. Culture-based issues stand out when communicating with various departements. Expect double standards in general from Management when it comes to salary/promotion/benefits. Really heavy load of Japanese style of MBO. Adequate portion of income comes from over-time work. Abroad Comapny trips 4 years straight. Easy to apply your vacation day offs. Core working time is 10-3 and you can get off work.

    Advice to Management

No sincerity to keep valued employee. Especially to new comers that evolve into veterans.
No serious plan for company direction to "How to get things done", Always big talk.
Communicate poorly to solve employee real issues, instead sustain peacful atomosphere.
Job Function/ Responsibility is overlooked and creates big holes in overall employee work ability.
