Pros

Free pop that they stock up in the fridge

Cons

- Management heavy, it's too stacked at the top with not enough workers, which leads to massive amount of project pile-ups. They dont have a proper execution plan in place. - There are voice conference meetings that have over 40 people in them across the several offices which they basically talk about who's project is more important and that the limited workers should spend time on it, which is kind of ridiculous. - Unrealistic timelines from management who have no technical knowledge of how things are to be implemented. - Toronto office is dated and by far the worst office I've ever worked in. - They let go of key people at the wrong times. Granted there are usually layoffs when it comes with acquisitions. They let go of people with knowledge that no one else has before knowledge transfer. I cant say for sure but they essentially let go of people with a higher salary and kept people with lower salary going into the new year to possibly make their financials look good. The people who remained were basically expected to pick up the slack with no documentation and expected to perform. - The company feels very departmentalized, in the sense where if something goes wrong they point fingers and wont be willing to help unless asked by higher ups. - The company keeps acquiring other companies without spending time to improve/consolidate the company infrastructure. - The people that actually do work are afraid to speak up and say no to unrealistic request/requirements. The person that I know of that did end up getting let go. - We're expected to pay for social events. Bi-weekly $4 is deducted from our paychecks to go towards social funds. You can opt out of it. I've never been at a company that requires us to pay for social events. There are other things that makes this company feel cheap, like not picking a better office/location and opting for cheaper places where talent doesnt exist. - There is no social culture in the office. - They enforce working at the office but it really makes no difference working remote as no one talks to each other in the office and everything is done through skype across offices. -There is so many things wrong with this company that it's hard to explain. You'd have to witness it first hand to know. But i suggest you dont do that. - With how the company structure looks, there does not appear for any growth opportunities

Thank you for your feedback. Let’s see if we can address a few of the issues you raise. While mergers and acquisitions can be destabilizing for some people, we do our best to integrate new employees into our culture, as well as set appropriate priorities. Some transitions can be more difficult than others, but we work hard to integrate new teams and align projects in an organized fashion. Social committee contributions are entirely voluntarily and most events are largely funded by the company. We believe that working together to plan and fund social events creates a balanced approach that benefits employees and impacts engagement levels in a positive way. We encourage employees to work from our offices because we believe that face to face collaboration is critical to our company’s success. While you don’t recommend Distributel to others, we hope that you are discovering more “Pros” with time, and that Distributel is becoming a better fit for you, if not, we hope you can find what is right for you and your career.

Pros

No Pros when you consider the Cons.

Cons

In the recent years, Distributel has been trying to improve their poor ratings and their reputation in the eyes of their employees by working on different ways of driving employee engagement and by conceiling their bureaucratic tendencies behind a few employee appreciation campaigns which their undervalued employees were lucky to experience for the first time in years - gaining themselves the Great Place to Work award. It's unfortunate to say that the people who made it a great place to work have been recently replaced due to systemic bias, favoritism and blatant apathy. Job security has always been inexistant at Distributel due to frequent small acquisitions consistently costing the jobs of those who have put in the efforts, hard work and brought positive change, simply being replaced by lower salaries, empty promises and higher employee turnover rates. The pay is on the lower scale for most positions, advancement opportunities exist until they deem it's cheaper to get the employees replaced but most of all - the Customer Service that Distributel provides to their customers is amongst the absolute worst in the Telecom Industy in Canada. Where's the pride in that?
