I have been working at Dwyer Instruments full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Company is strong financially and they don't have too much invested in 1 particular client
    -Truly a family type culture
-Great benefits: raises can be over double industry average and they are based on performance, they have profit sharing (almost like a pension), they have competitive insurance rates, 401k, etc.
-They have thousands of products, and continue to innovate and create new products
-They look for people who want a career and value their employees. They have tuition reimbursement and are committed to continuing education via conferences, training, etc.
-Good work/life balance throughout the company, no one is burning the midnight oil.

    Cons

-They do have an old school dress code (i.e. No jeans, management has to wear a tie, etc.)
-They are a little antiquated in terms of systems, but they are working on implementing new systems across the company in the next year.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work, keep looking to innovate in our products, processes and culture!

    Pros

Opportunities if willing to work hard and do a good job. Great president cares about the people -makes me proud to work with him.

    Cons

Promotes the wrong ones sometimes, does not recognize the phony attitudes of some due to trusting the wrong people.

    Advice to Management

Trust the people you know who sincerely respect you and know you will do the right thing.

I have been working at Dwyer Instruments (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people across all departments and Management really takes the time to develop talents.

    Cons

Michigan City is relative small, but it's not too far from Chicago and boarders New Buffalo, MI - great tourist town especially in the summer.

I have been working at Dwyer Instruments full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Small enough to interact with everyone including upper management. Good Compensation. On the right track to grow into a very successful company. Quality products made in the USA.

    Cons

Technologically outdated. There are lots of things that "have always been done this way" and should be updated. Communication between departments is difficult.

    Advice to Management

Bring everything to a cloud based system so multiple people can edit a single document instead of emailing local copies back & forth.

I worked at Dwyer Instruments full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

HVAC market direction is very interesting and helps widen your horizons
There are so many products to sell, it's really spread out over many markets

    Cons

    Management is old school
Customers either hate or love the company and/pr products
Often mistaken as a catalog house

    Advice to Management

Help cultivate an atmosphere of collaboration and incentivize the engineers/marketing accordingly. There should be more transparency.

    Pros

Absolutely the most super friendly co-workers I have ever worked with.
The facility is incredibly clean and comfortable. The medical benefits are wonderful and the pay is pretty good (not competitive with other companies by a long shot, but not the lowest in the area).

    Cons

Poor management - very uninvolved in day to day operations, no clear goals, unrealistic targets set and Zero training. Zero.
The overall opinion seems to be that everyone in the world is born knowing all they need to about Dwyer so there is no reason to provide even the most basic information to help you do your job.
They stay short staffed so everyone is ridiculously over worked, over burdened and highly frustrated. Most of their methods are severely outdated and time consuming.
I have never before been so busy and so mind-numbingly bored at the same time.
This is 100% a 'Boys Club' and if you're not one of the outdated, stale 'Boys' then you have no voice.
It's a shame - they have all of the ingredients to be a superb organization but they lack the know-how to correctly mix it all together.

    Advice to Management

Provide adequate training and clear goals - it's a garbage in/garbage out situation.
Hire the number of people actually needed in each department instead of short staffing each area and expecting people to just make it work.
Welcome change - change is good. Change is needed and helpful. What was done in 1940's workplace may not be the best methods to use in todays workplace.
Listen to the people on the front lines, not just to the numbers on a piece of paper. You actually have all of the makings of a fantastic employer - so use them.

I worked at Dwyer Instruments full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This is a growing company with a good niche in their market and brand recognition in the industry. The company operates in the black and isn't going out of business tomorrow. There is a lot of opportunity for people with the right personality.

    Cons

There is little opportunity for career growth based on merit alone. It's a good company, but its still a "good old boy" club and if you're not in the club you aren't going anywhere. In certain departments, people are considered just warm bodies and can be replaced at any time. There are also a number of bad apples permitted to pollute the culture and still have a job.

    Advice to Management

If you find your employees to be a frustration for you, consider the adage...attitude reflects leadership.
