I have been working at Elementis full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

The environment is challenging, fast paced and dynamic, there is room for growth at some levels. The Senior Management team in play now, seems to want to do things right.

    Cons

The company has had many changes in management over the years and several rounds of making things leaner. There are overall many management roles and not as many worker bees as there should be anymore. Things which move at such a fast pace need higher levels of resourcing.

    Advice to Management

If hiring a larger team is not an option in some areas, slow down enough to right size the momentum with the resources.
Replace people when they leave, and stop consolidating roles because of circumstance.
Better plan long term projects, so resources to accomplish them (on expedited timelines) are set up for success.
Burnout is not uncommon in various areas of the company at this point. Weekends and late nights are the norm for many.
Transparency is not a strong suit between those burning the candle at both ends and senior management.
I truly believe if senior management were given more direct information about some of the failures in this structure, that change might be possible. At this point, it seems impossible.

    Pros

was a great company until we were bought out by them

    Cons

they are always big on safety because they can't work safe like summit does and want to change us into being unsafe it seems we can't be productive with 5 mph forktrucks

    Advice to Management

listen more to what the workers want. we make it happen you sell it we make it

I have been working at Elementis full-time

    Pros

Pay is good. Thats the only pro of working there.

    Cons

Management keeps morale very low. A lot of chemical exposure and unsafe working conditions. If you're not an engineer you're treated as second class citizen.

I worked at Elementis full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Not many good reasons to work at Elementis. It's known as the turnover capital of NJ. It could be a good company to work at with the proper senior management team.

    Cons

A back-stabbing environment where you never feel safe about your job. For the majority of people, it's a job not a career. Senior management keeps the best rewards for themselves and do not share with the rest of the employees.

    Advice to Management

First step is done with the prior CEO gone. Next step is to replace the rest of senior management and give them a taste of their own medicine. Replace them with competent business managers that understand what success looks like.

I worked at Elementis (More than a year)

    Pros

Good work/life balance. People are generally nice to work with. Everyone is willing to help you get up to speed.

    Cons

Limited growth opportunities; expect to be doing 2-3 jobs coming in and picking up more work as business continues to slide. upper management only seems to care about preserving their annual bonuses and not taking care of the employees at the bottom.

    Advice to Management

Layoffs are not fixing the underlying issues. Having people doing 2-4 jobs is only making an unhappy work for more unproductive and unhappy. Stop wasting money on Holiday parties and fancy desks that move up and down, focus on fixing the current business model.

I have been working at Elementis (More than a year)

    Pros

Friendly work team for the most part. Excellent operators. Plant management is heading in the right direction under new leadership. Satisfying and difficult work.

    Cons

No recognition for performance. Annual bonus gain sharing payout is essentially nonexistent. Callous global management team. "Everyone is Replaceable" culture. Subtle workplace hostility in the form of retaliatory emails CC to bosses to "throw people under the bus." High turnover due to poor compensation and culture. Salaries lower than industry average for engineers. Very low morale amongst the union employees. Stressful environment. Incredible pressure placed on operations team (production engineers, shift supervision, ops management) due to skeleton crew bare minimum staffing.

    Advice to Management

Hire more people. Get and retain engineers with better incentives. Make a realistic and achievable payout for yearly bonuses (5-12% is a standard range for successful production companies).
