Pros

- Great employee benefits with a 35 hour work week and generous time-off - Meaningful work, supporting libraries and reading is rewarding - There are some really enthusiastic and quality people working at ALA

Cons

- Many people are happy with the status quo. - The internal discord and politics between management is immature. - Ineffective managers and workers are left to keep on being ineffective. No one does anything. - Very quiet atmosphere in most departments where everyone is tucked away in their own offices. Walking down the hallway you barely run into anyone talking or collaborating. - So many times no one really "owns" a project so everything is group decisions with no one accountable for anything.

Pros

95% of ALA staff are delightful to work with. The other 5% are working too hard to be delightful. Libraries fill real needs in communities so it's easy to get behind the mission.

Cons

95% of ALA members are delightful to work with. The other 5% are oddly power hungry and exhibitionist.
