Pros

Good people to work with. Supervisory management is encouraging and in most cases, well informed.

Cons

There are FAR too many to list in detail, so I will focus on the worst. One, the upper management is clue less about the solar industry as a whole. Two, lack of gender inclusion, especially in the policy making and administrative areas. Three, Lack of effective communication between different divisions of management, particularly between company senior management, and those at the ground level. All of this results in sloppy, ill prepared management, with no clue as to the reality of the day to day , boots on the ground , employees, and the challenges they face at their particular retail location. The expectations of management, are completely unrealistic, and reflect a general, overall ignorance of sales, marketing, and the realities of the solar industry in general. This results in the "work off the clock"syndrome, you see in FAR too many "marketing" and "promotional" positions today. Low pay, the constant positioning of a promoter in an area, where it is well known that leads, (and therefore bonuses, raises, and adequate salaries), are all but impossible to achieve, which leads to an incredibly high turn over rate in the company. 90% of new hires ARE gone, (quit, or fired), within one year. IF you can manage on full time hours, with a below minimum wage, (that is until you MIGHT be one of the lucky few who can outlast this situation, and build up your pipeline of leads), Then this might be the job for you. If you can't?.... Then I would recommend you look for a job elsewhere.

Pros

Working with BrightCurrent has been a fantastic intro to the renewable energy industry. Hours are flexible, co-workers are awesome, and the managers are engaged and understanding. Everyone is considered for promotion after three months, with a pay bump and increased responsibilities; they have been committed to employee development from the get-go, but understand that BrightCurrent will not be your life forever. A young company, they are growing extremely fast and offer many opportunities for advancement. A typical workday consists of conversing with passerbys at events and hardware stores about solar systems to save them money. Everyone wins, and I'm proud to represent the high quality products and services they offer. The entire team is passionate about building a decentralized clean energy system, and they ask you for feedback and guidance in the direction the company should embark on.

Cons

80% of people in the field ignore you off the bat, which can be hard to get used to, though working for BrightCurrent has made me utterly unafraid of talking to perfect strangers. Remaining enthused every weekend morning is sometimes difficult when it's a slow rainy day (and your commission drops accordingly). Also, commute times can be cripplingly rough; not sure what my net carbon footprint is from driving an hour each way to sell people on solar quotes.
