Pros

Independence, no micromanaging, you get a lot of freedom.

Cons

Queer Folx: this is not a safe space to work. While there are the usual complications of being queer and working with older adults, it is the overarching company that I took issue with. Very early on in working here, I was told by multiple other CSI Employees to specifically stay in the closet at work (both with member's and other employees). I have spent enough of my life being ashamed and hiding who I am--so this feedback was very much not well received. I did end up staying in the closet for the entirety of my time at CSI (which I made sure was short) as a result of this feedback as well as statements made by members (derogatory statements by residents regarding gay people and viewing them as predatory). I understand that not everywhere you are going to work will be the most affirming and progressive place, I am under no illusion that the majority of jobs will not be safe spaces in fact. Nevertheless, for an organization that claims to be diverse and supportive they clearly have a lot of work to do internally. I also acknowledge that I had the benefit of being cis as well-- I cannot even imagine how impossible it would be to work at this company as a trans/non-binary/gender-diverse individual. No one has pronouns in their email signatures, no one even bothers to introduce themselves with them, and I just cannot imagine anyone working here would be remotely good at using "alternative" pronouns (she/they, they/them, he/they, she/he, any pronouns, and especially not neo-pronouns). I just don't believe that any of them would even bother putting in the effort. In my time working at CSI (albeit it was short), I did not meet or see a single individual in all of my meetings, events, etc that was out as gender diverse--and in a company as big I simply cannot believe that there is not a single gender diverse person working there (though they may just not be out).
