Low Pay and No Mobility - Communications Manager Claims Conference Employee Review

Pros

Great mission - this organization's mission is to ensure care for Holocaust survivors globally. This is done through annual negotiations with Germany for survivor care and resources annually.

Cons

Pay scale is well below market for the amount of work required of each department. There is little to no mobility, no way to move forward. The executives get paid $200,000 to $450,000 (except for the EVP who gets paid nearly $800,000), but the average employee gets paid between $35,000 and $50,000. There's such a disparity. There is no mobility within the organization. To move forward within your chosen career path is impossible. The best you can hope for is the occasional, negligible raise. The expectation of this organization is that you will work like you're getting paid because the mission is so important even though you're not getting paid and the work you do is unappreciated and often never sees the light of day. FYI: this org does not even pay what other comparable nonprofits pay.

Pros

The organization has an important mission. Employees believe in it and try to help survivors. Employees are usually smart and dedicated. Work life balance is good with two days in the office. Jewish holidays are vacation days. Good health insurance.

Cons

Pay is on the lower end. Professional development and career opportunities are very limited. The organization will stop being relevant in a few years when survivors will pass away but no one explains to the employees what will happen to them. The CEO makes a million dollars a year but is never at the office. The COO thinks he knows everything but cannot figure out how to fix simple issues like the office doors or the AC instead he criticizes the CEO decisions behind his back. HR does not support the employees, it only cares about protecting the company. Office politics are getting in the way of fulfilling the mission. No diversity in management. Stay away!
