Pros

Everything they do is commendable when it comes to upholding values and promoting employee engagement. The pay is excellent, the benefits are outstanding, and the offsites are truly exceptional. The company has a knack for recruiting exceptional employees and bringing out their best. In fact, it's the best company I have ever worked for. However...

Cons

Codility is a company that initially woos you with its charms, only to shatter your expectations. They whisk you away to exotic locations for expensive offsite events, but then abruptly lay you off citing losses from Q1. It's hardly surprising that they incurred losses, considering that they flew in circa 200 people from all over the world to Club Med in Punta Cana. Read that again. The selection criteria for laying off employees in all three rounds between August 22 and March 23 (!) is highly opaque, resulting in the unfortunate dismissal of many loyal employees, aka "the doers". Codility lacks a clear product strategy and the kind of leadership that could help it rise above competition, despite investing in top-level executives ("the thinkers") rather than those who actually do the work. There is too much focus on catching up with competitors. Too much anxiety when it comes to "what others are doing". Industry leaders don't follow the crowd. The said thinkers tend to come from NA, as if the only way forward for this company is to be led by the US folks. It's massively discriminating when you look at how many departments got rid of Europeans. Just take a look at the Marketing team - a great example of that. It used to be international. Not anymore. The People team must be a big cost as they only lay off junior staff. The year 2022 was a period of massive decline for Codility, as the company came to terms with the reality that it lacked the ability to properly allocate its resources and distinguish between spending and investing. It was a case of "too much, too soon."

Pros

It’s hard to put into words just how much I enjoy working at Codility. It has given me everything I was looking for - career growth opportunities, a high degree of autonomy and trust, supportive teammates who truly want to collaborate, a competitive salary, great benefits, and the flexibility of a remote work environment with near-complete freedom in how I structure my day. I love that, if I want to focus entirely on coding for the day, I can. If I want to lead and organize - for myself and others - I can. And if I want to understand our customers’ sentiments better, I can simply join the Product team on their next call. This environment might not be for everyone - ownership and coding excellence are expected - but for those who thrive in such conditions, it’s incredibly rewarding. I also appreciate how people are recognized for their achievements and initiative. If you’re someone who values that kind of recognition, this is a place where you’ll feel right at home. I can see myself working here for many years to come.

Cons

Since this isn’t an enormous organization (only around 100 people), ownership is relatively easy to discern - and it’s expected. At times, this can be a bit stressful, although managers do everything in their power to help alleviate that pressure. Additionally, given the startup environment, changes in workforce composition and strategic direction aren’t uncommon - especially at the executive level - which can occasionally lead to periods of uncertainty. That said, I’ve yet to see a change that resulted in a net negative outcome. One genuine concern I have is that the career paths and growth criteria are not yet formally defined. This can create uncertainty around when, how, and on what basis to ask for a promotion or a raise. That said, there have been recent efforts to improve this, and progress is underway.

Pros

- plenty of work, not boring - in an industry facing interesting challenges

Cons

- extremely slow to adopt AI internally and in the product and falling behind as a result - reactive, emotional executives chasing shiny objects - outcome expectations unrealistic/misaligned to resources - losing huge customers mostly down to declining relevance of product offering

We have reasons to believe that this was submitted by a former GTM employee that has joined competition and intends to use this review in their sales process to discredit Codility. As such, it is factually incorrect. Codility was first to market with AI skills assessments and is pioneering AI native engineering interviews. Our team members across all functions use AI daily. In 2025 we have won several competitive RFPs with world's largest organizations due to our product relevance and superiority.
