Pros

Generous leave benefits, generous paternal leave, good health insurance at a low price, generous 401k.

Cons

CTA has changed a lot. Now it seems unless you are with the “in-crowd”, meaning tight with the top leadership, you are unlikely to go very far. CTA touts all their fantastic benefits and while some are great, some are not applicable to a wide range of employees. It has really become a toxic place for so many. If you work hard, they reward you by giving you more work until the load becomes unmanageable and then they refuse to give you any help. There is also disparity between departments – certain departments are empty by 5 PM, if not earlier, and others have staff that routinely work late to keep up. It is probably still a good place for those starting out to get in the door and start off their careers but it is not the place that people stick around for long. Over the last few years that has been a lot of exits by good people because they were fed up with the way things were going while the mediocre ones stay behind. Leadership is really out of touch and isn't in the office that much as many have secondary homes elsewhere.

This is one of the best corporates I have ever worked for.

Pros

The mentor program for employees is a great way for staff to confidentially seek advice and guidance from an employee with more experience and in a higher position than them. Every staff is set up with a mentor, so it’s random selection. The other pro is getting to leave at the end of every day.

Cons

Almost every single review says that everyone who works here is super nice, but I disagree. I think most people have a keep-to-themselves-attitude, while others were fake-nice. This is the most mundane 9 to 5 ever, the only exciting thing that ever happens is when the company goes to Vegas and everyone posts about it on LinkedIn for weeks and then everyone goes back to work. This is a glorified adult daycare. The worst part about working here is how much senior employees are allowed to continuously abuse their power (because they have nothing better to do with their lives) and mistreat lower level employees, and no one does anything about it. In my specific department, I was working under someone deceptive, sneaky, and verbally nasty, and with a reputation for being a bully. Lucky me! I will not miss dreading what nasty messages I might open my phone to, though I think that experience is unique to me. Hopefully with the recent change in leadership, there might be a difference in environment. Avoid this place at all costs, better yet just don’t even work in Virginia- find a way cooler job in DC!
