Pros
Best way to make connections in the industry. Great access to industry leaders. Very well respected; looks good on a resume. Nice perks to compensate for low salary - movie screenings, free breakfast, benefits, parking, etc.
Cons
Not any freedom to criticize the company (constructively or otherwise). HR tends to treat assistants like children - micromanaging schedules, etc. Economic downturns affect assistants first, even though they are least able to absorb decreases in salary.
