Pros

Strong compensation and benefits, great learning exposure, talented colleagues, and opportunities for international travel.

Cons

Poor leadership and zero trust in direct management. Speaking up about mismanagement or inefficiencies is not welcomed—it’s punished. My direct manager consistently demonstrated a lack of capability for the role, and senior leadership showed little clarity or direction in addressing ongoing issues. The HR People Partner also appeared unprepared to handle situations effectively, which further reinforced a lack of accountability across the organization. The leadership in Costa Rica promotes a “people-first” approach during hiring, but in practice, employees are treated as disposable. Performance does not protect you—high performers can be let go abruptly, often without clear justification, beyond vague statements like “it’s a company decision.” Overall, the behaviors and decisions at multiple levels reflect a serious gap in leadership quality and a lack of genuine care for how people are treated.

Pros

Great teams made up of smart, motivated people. Databricks is an exciting place to work because it is part of the growing data and AI tools space. The benefits and income are also good overall.

Cons

Databricks no longer feels like a startup. There are now multiple layers of bureaucracy, and leadership can feel territorial rather than collaborative. Over time, it can seem like business growth and internal politics have become stronger drivers than innovation or employee experience. For long-tenured employees, it may become harder to stay excited or feel challenged. Other companies may offer a more energizing environment.
