It’s very difficult so see what was once such a great company, losing its way. The problems lie right at the top and then trickles downward, throughout the organisation. If you consider what it is you want from an organisation - ethical behaviour? Integrity?A clear vision? Support to develop your career? Or just a nice place to work? Unfortunately this organisation doesn’t offer any of the above. With every new Leadership Team member the problem gets worse and the latest so riddled with insecurities, will bare-face lie whilst treating people like dirt on the bottom of her shoe. If you want a career in marketing look elsewhere, you only have to read some of the fake 5* reviews or see the latest social postings on LinkedIn or Twitter to realise how weak this department is. The Leadership Team will say that the problems lie at the foot of COVID-19, but the reality is that this team (that account for over $10million in salaries) have created a siloed culture separating themselves from the rest of the employees. This was no clearer than at the moment of crisis, whilst leaders across the industry were taking pay cuts, this leadership team refused calls to do the same but did cut employees bonuses. The GSMA has pulled itself further away from its roots of being a member lead organisation and are working out how to over charge it’s core whilst offering less. The current strategy is simply sell space at MWC and unfortunately the board don’t get involved or care. HR have little power and do very little for the staff, all grievances (and there are many) are ignored or swept under the carpet. Staff surveys regularly show how demotivated staff are but this is ignored with the DG, in a staff call telling people to leave if they’re unhappy and so talent continues to leave. If career is your driver this isn’t the place for you, if a nice atmosphere is your driver this isn’t the place for you, if inconsistency and words over actions is your driver jump aboard the sinking ship. The only way things improve here is if the leadership changes.
