Pros

Benefits with Halliburton are great. One would be hard pressed to find better benefits. I've heard several doctors and insurance agents comment about how good the coverage is. The finance benefits (stock options, 401k) are outstanding. Vacation time is hard to beat as well.

Cons

It seems like all Halliburton is concerned with is growing as fast as possible with little regard to anything else other than making sure policy is followed. I was a part of a smaller company that was bought out 3 years ago. Our integration with Halliburton has been very poor, which makes day to day tasks more difficult and more complicated. Quite a few people who have been with Halliburton a long time have commented on how poorly Halliburton integrated us into the company. Halliburton didn't take the time to do it right. They may have a great structure for service and sales, but the facility I work at is a rental company. It doesn't take a degree in business to know that you can't run a rental company like a service and sales company. Also, we constantly stay understaffed and underpaid. Most people at the facility I work at are responsible for the work of 2 or 3. Halliburton only sees that we make "x" amound of dollars, therefore we only need "x" number of people. It's understandale to a point from a business perspective, but too often it makes it impossible to get everything done without working until Midnight. In short, Halliburton does not know what it takes to make our facility operate efficiently. It also doesn't help when your product manager wants to keep doing things the old way and won't let go of old systems. That means that 3+ different systems have to be updated when in reality only 1 or 2 need to be updated.

Pros

Halliburton looks strong on the outside, especially on a resume, and the brand name still carries weight in the industry. Some teams work on interesting projects, and if you get a fair manager, you can learn a lot about large-scale B2B operations.

Cons

If you land under the wrong manager, performance improvement plans (PIPs) can be used as a weapon, not a coaching tool. I was put on a PIP that contained inaccurate claims even after I shared detailed evidence and context. I provided several solid pieces of documentation to HR to rebut the accusations, yet nothing meaningful was investigated or corrected in my case. HR felt more like a shield for management than a neutral party. In my experience, they protected internal politics instead of looking at facts and evidence. There is a culture of quiet compliance. Many people stay 10+ years because the pay and brand are “safe,” but they are hesitant to challenge unfair treatment or speak up about toxic behavior. Corporate hierarchy is heavy, and real decisions seem to depend more on who is backing your manager than on actual performance or documented facts.
