Pros
Interac is trying to heal their company culture; it's not perfect but they are trying to be better. It's definitely one of the better company cultures I have been a part of even though they have work to do. They do a good job of blinding us with perks. Its easy to get drunk off the company kool-aid because they try to be, and mostly succeed at being better than most companies. This is to distract us from paying us low wages. Some perks are summer hours on Fridays in the summer, no meeting Fridays for some departments, quiet hours 3 times a day where we don't book meetings or interrupt each other (unless urgent.) Employee appreciation gifts, holiday gift, holiday party. Random parties thrown for us or gifts (all business expensed of course) if we meet a huge corporate objective. Choice to work remote or in-office. Good benefits. Leadership is generally not micromanagerial. They do a good job of trying to honor the work /life balance. We have a point system where we can award each other unlimited points if a coworker goes above and beyond. 1 point = 1 dollar, all redeemable in gift cards. They didn't tell us that the giftcards are taxed as income though, so even if we get a 100$ gift card, we have to pay back half later.
Cons
Despite signing a pledge to hire more Black people for leadership and C-Level roles, its still all white people in leadership and C-level. Casual racism, even from the Chief HR Officer, like any other company. All talk but no action. Again they do a good job of making us think they're a good company by throwing gifts and perks at us. No strategy or direction in the company. Corruption here and there. Leadership typically hires their friends who don't know payments. Very low pay in general at this company because we used to be not for profit and cost-recovery only, but now we are revenue focused and pay is still very low. You can advance relatively quickly but the pay won't increase very much. Owned by shareholders, so by definition the profits must go to them, so there's no room for big enough raises. Raises are MAYBE 1.2%.
