Pros

You will learn a great deal. You will work with some very smart individuals. You will learn to work efficiently in a quick paced environment. Salary is comparable to other firms. Benefits are comparable, if not better than other firms. Bonuses appear to be based on merit, not length of time with company. You will have a great deal of work which will make the day go by faster.

Cons

You will not be able to showcase any talents. You will not be utilized to your fullest potential. You will be judged based on management's personal preferences. You will not be respected for the quality of your work. You will deal with lots of pettiness. You will need to have a thick skin. You will need to realize that promotions are not based on merit, so if this is your motivation, you will not thrive. You will have to watch your back.

Pros

The location of Katten LA once attracted very cool associate lawyers and folks finding their way through the lineage of big law. I met a lot of great people and a lot of smart people that were very junior while I was also and I do not take that for granted, because time and time again they proved that they were more brilliant than even the most senior.

Cons

I was at Katten Los Angeles for around 7 years and a lot of the misconduct I saw attorneys get away with was encouraged by the managing partner. He thought he was invincible and in turn groomed some people professionally to believe the same. He would boast about his high profile clients without being honest with them about the lengths he would go to to win cases using what any state bar would consider extreme misconduct, potentially suspension worthy. He got away with it because the average person does not have resources to deal with abuse of process and fraud. It kind of made me dislike this profession I love when true justice at the center.
