Pros

Helping young adults begin real careers.

Cons

Once a fulfilling fun place to work that recently took a turn for the worst under new leadership, NPower Trainees are no longer the priority. More focus has been placed on becoming a numbers-driven organization instead of focusing on the mission to launch the digital careers of the young adults it promises to serve. New leadership in the Saint Louis region has been challenging and to say the least very unprofessional. The ground staff is left out of the loop until it is too late. Hard-working underappreciated staff is often talked down to by the ED, and jobs are often constantly threatened he likes to call them chess moves. Staff is made to feel as if they have to walk on eggshells and undervalued even if they are high-performing employees. (even the very high performing employees) Staff morale is low or non-existent, tenured staff is often made to feel as if the work they are doing is not appreciated and have been told this our right. Promises are made to staff in private offline conversation and then recanted in public. Trust is constantly broken between leadership and staff. The culture of the organization is shifting from caring about the trainees and the vision of the organization and it is now more concerned with how many seats the organization can fill as opposed to how many lives it can change.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand that change is not easy. And changes in leadership can sometimes feel disruptive. We, at NPower, conduct a thorough vetting process for all new hires to ensure we attract mission-driven individuals with strong skills and talents. That process is even more rigorous when onboarding new leaders. We believe it is a thoughtful approach that, while not perfect, makes NPower a great place to work. With that said, we will personally follow up with the St. Louis team to better understand the challenges you describe and course correct where needed.
