NSTAR Electric

Is this your company?

I enjoyed working there. I would have stayed if I had the chance to. - Anonymous employee NSTAR Electric Employee Review

Pros

Good people to work with. I miss my former colleagues.

Cons

If you leave this industry, as many of us had to without our choosing... you'll learn quickly that there aren't many other utilities to choose from. Its a detriment to you that you'll have knowledge of a very specialized industry. Also to note. You will be assigned a storm assignment during severe storms. We were not paid for the additional hours worked. And they were long shifts.

Pros

Health Care and 401k packages are good. - Their PPO plans are highly subsidized compared to anywhere else in the local area. - Matched 401k packages 50% up to ~10-15% of yearly salary. Fiscally Conservative Company Its a very stable job. It is very difficult to fired from this company unless it is an ethical issue

Cons

Compensation for employees is not great. You get paid what you get paid. Unfortunately, this has the potential to breed complacency in the workforce. Most of the technical work is contracted out. Supervisors/Managers become excel sheet managers and production trackers. There is some history of bad relations between Union and Management and making it difficult for both to come together to work. There can be antagonistic attitudes while there. New employees find may find this dynamic very awkward and will spend a lot of time navigating this issue. IT infrastructure and server speed could be improved. Network memory is small (circa 2009) making it difficult to share information (ie photos, documents, related media for work) Fiscally Conservative Company. Most of my time was spent finding the least expensive way of doing things and then seeing if I could make it even less expensive
