Pros

Had its day. Used to be a big player in the industry, now woefully behind the times. Staff morale used to be better, need to see what is happening before their eyes.

Cons

Very political environment. Shift in attitude over the years, staff morale at rock bottom, no rewards/recognition, staff feel undervalued and are increasingly frustrated. Directorship outdated, varies dramatically across the board. Nobody able to make decisions.

Pros

One of the better organisations I’ve worked for. They practice what they preach, and their ethics of trust in their people are carried through. Salaries are as expected for a smaller company, but still relatively competitive, and staff aren’t left with constantly unobtainable goals to justify not giving an annual pay rise at the end of the year like other companies. They genuinely seem to care about their people, and have a lot of internal policies that ensure that staff welfare is upheld. Staff are strongly encouraged and helped with skills growth, either through courses or shadowing, if they want that. The staff culture is genuinely one of the best I’ve experienced. The people definitely make it the place it is, and even though it’s often very remote you’re never left feeling lonely. Everyone is willing to help you where they can, and all staff are treated with genuine respect no matter their seniority.

Cons

It is a small company with a relatively flat structure. Movement and growth can sometimes be slow. If you’re looking to climb the ranks quickly and make a name for yourself before moving on this isn’t the company for that. One of the downsides of being such a good culture fit is that there isn’t much in the way of movement for leadership roles or promotions internally. People tend to stick around for a long time.
