ORISE is a U.S. Department of Energy asset dedicated to enabling critical scientific, research, and health initiatives of the department and its laboratory system. ORISE supports DOE mission's by fostering development of the next generation of STEM professionals with learning-based internship, fellowship, and postdoctoral opportunities that supplement the participant's educational experience. Though not direct employment programs, these opportunities introduce participants to a network of connections and provide a chance to learn from the nation's leading STEM experts. Poor communication and organization from management led to missed pay on multiple occasions. This falls more on ORISE mentors than on ORISE management itself. Liability concerns restricted research opportunities
