Pros

Doodles, they have nice doodles.

Cons

This company is a group of friends who are all like-minded. There is no room for others if you are not like them. They spend a lot of time meditating and conducting mindfulness. It's very cult-like. If you run into a problem with one person, the whole company turns against you. There is no room for creativity and any ideas you bring to the table will be quickly shot down by the rest of the group who relentlessly stroke each other's ego. A front end developer from Vancouver has more say regarding a design task in Toronto then an actual designer from Toronto. The group spends way too much time together after work...it's almost as if they don't have a home to go to. Every year the company goes away to a cottage to binge drink for 3 days. There is relentless pressure to go, and if you don't go, you and your ideas are excluded from meetings. I've never seen anything like this.

Thank-you for your review. It sounds like you had difficulty integrating into, and having effective communication with, your team. I can see that there was not a fit with Myplanet and your personal work style as many of the negative traits you state are the exact reasons our team members love working here. There are a few points that you have made in your review that do concern me. I’d like to provide some clarity: On Mindfulness: We do provide mindfulness (emotional intelligence) training and facilitated meditation on a weekly basis, along with other personal and professional development opportunities. This training is completely optional, though many of our Myplaneteers appreciate it and participate. We have expanded this training based on positive feedback from many Myplaneteers on the impact it has in all areas of their lives, an increasing body of published literature (Harvard, McKinsey, UofT) showing the benefits, and our own experiences that show these skills as critical in producing high performance teams and team members. On Building Friendships/Relationships With Team Members: As part of our Humanity value, we do encourage our team members to get to know each other as people. It increases team engagement, collaboration and makes for a great work environment. We do have several opportunities to socialize - and while completely optional - we do encourage team members to attend so we can get to know each other and build great friendships. Our cottage trip, holiday party, pot-lucks, team outings, the weekly gathering and more are all enjoyed responsibly by an increasingly mature crowd (no offense to those with birthdays this year). Unfortunately, your comments don't seem to include the many efforts from the organizers of these events to ensure alcohol-free options for participation, as well as a variety of options for individuals with families and commitments outside of work. While I have never heard of someone being excluded from ongoing activities and conversations because they did not go to an event, exclusion, explicit or otherwise is simply not tolerated here. If you feel like this was the case, please contact me directly so I can address that situation. On Ideas & Meetings: As part of our Collaboration Value - we do create an inclusive environment where everyone has the opportunity to make a positive impact on the project at hand. Our team retrospectives, coaching and emotional intelligence training are all targeted at achieving this goal. This means great ideas can be presented by anyone. We focus in on what works, what's best for the client, the user, and consider ideas from across the team; as opposed to decisions made based on someone’s title. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you find a great company fit in your next role.

Pros

Orium seems to be hitting its stride. I've watched the transition of Myplanet to Orium as the company embraced composable commerce. Some early projects were really difficult, in particular in 2020-2021, but I see us getting better and better now with each new client as the expertise and experience in the company continues to grow. The company is definitely at the forefront of a market that is seeing growth. I've never worked at a company when they were so clearly in the right place at the right time the way Orium is right now. I appreciate the transparency of management on priorities at the regular all-hands and Q&A sessions. This includes updates on key operating metrics and financial health data. Given the uncertainty in the world right now I find it reassuring to know the company is doing well. Things are fast paced and you have to like that kind of environment. I find I'm always learning and able to take on new challenges that push me out of my comfort zone. The leadership that I work with are smart, supportive and approachable.

Cons

Growth and change means growing pains. I noticed two leaders who seemed spread too thin last year end. It impacted me less but I could see their stress was starting to affect their direct teams. More recently their responsibilities have been changed to be more manageable. I think HR also intervened based on feedback/complaints and I've noticed a change for the better. They're empowering their teams more and micro-managing them less. Another example is 1:1s getting cancelled or not happening at all in some of our project teams last year. Management re-organized this process at the end of 2022 and this seems to have improved. I appreciate that management acts to improve things, and it's probably unavoidable at a company growing this fast, but I wish we could avoid some of these challenges in the first place.

Pros

- people - location - benefits - challenges that help you grow professionally - Mindfulness Mondays were great to take the break and reflect

Cons

- some people needed more structure than others - could be a culture shock for those that come from an larger enterprise organization.

Really appreciate your time writing this review. It sounds like a lot of your experience here at Myplanet resonated with you. I appreciate your time contributing to forums such as SOTU, Company Q&A, Morning Coffee and for providing feedback into our bi-weekly one-on-one feedback sessions. The best ideas we have heard and implemented come from those sessions. We try to be up-front that individuals who need extensive structure may not be a fit here at Myplanet. We're looking for those who can bring new ideas and challenges to our team. Thank-you again for your positive contributions to our story.
