Pros

Animal rights all day, every day! Imagine if everyone you worked with shared your feelings about animals. It's incredible to have that common thread of deeply held ethics. It's also wonderful to know that I am unequivocally making a difference in the lives of animals. Just check out the victories and you can't deny it. Also, dogs in the office! Yay! I have a wonderful manager who trusts me and, therefore, allows me a lot of freedom. If you want to do well and enjoy your job at PETA, then be a good employee. It's really that simple. Senior staff are incredibly driven, intelligent, and willing to discuss their views about issues. I have had many private conversations with VP's and PETA attorneys and even if someone is working on something as important as a case against SeaWorld, they will talk to you about the legal reasons, although it really has nothing to do with your day-to-day job.

Cons

All the typical cons of working at a non-profit and they stem from the lack of money. Money is tight, very tight. You don't go to work at PETA for financial stability, you go bc working for animal rights is in your soul. And because animal rights are a part of your fabric, you will be on the clock 24 hours. You aren't asked to be, but it really does take over your life. That can be a pro for some people, I suppose.

LOVE the title of this review! Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate it and are going to take it into consideration. We really like that all four offices have a different culture, we want to embrace that and celebrate each one individually, but whenever we can we want to make sure everyone in the organization gets to partake in festivities, including remote employees. There are definitely different perks that come along with working in each office and we will look into what is being done in Oakland to see how we can improve on things. If you have any ideas please feel free to contact Human Resources, we have an open door policy and encourage staff to help spread good ideas! Thank you for mentioning that staff members are not asked to work around the clock but sometimes choose to. Everyone works extremely hard at PETA/PETA Foundation and even though they are not forced to work irregular hours, their dedication and passion for helping animals sometimes takes over! If you ever need help with time management please let us know; we are grateful everyone works so hard but truly encourage healthy, happy habits! Thanks again for your feedback and all you do for animals!

Pros

Coworkers are hard working, intelligent, dedicated animal advocates. I truly believed everyone was trying their best for to save the animals from horrific abuse. It was nice to be among people who understood what animals are put through and who were giving their all to help them.

Cons

Challenging work environment with no concern for work/life balance. Low pay for emotionally difficult work. It felt very hierarchical. A lot of questionable practices, such as requiring employees to watch graphic abuse imagery as part of onboarding and begging employees for monthly donations to deduct from their salaries. Some campaign strategies felt unrealistic or lacking in evidence, so it could feel like we were wasting time and resources on projects that were not likely to have much pay off for the animals.
