Pros
- The majority of my colleagues are fun, friendly, and happy to help. - Many veterans at both the company and in the industry, meaning there is a wealth of knowledge available. - Interesting to learn about camera systems and provide technical support to clients. Also cool to meet industry members - you get a great understanding of how the film industry, especially the camera department works.
Cons
- The pay is terrible. One of my friends was earning more than me per hour working as a cashier, than I was, providing technical support and customer service in a specialised and technical field. - There's very little infrastructure within the company to facilitate career progression. Many of the veterans have been in that role for decades. I would never get promoted unless I waited another ten years, or whenever, for my manager to retire. They were unwilling to create a role for me when I asked for a promotion. - Took me for granted. Expected me to do the duties of a manager, and step up when my manager was on holiday, but didn't want to pay me for it or make it official. Overall, the company is stagnant and uninspired, with little concept of what modern workplaces look like. Work culture was only good because my specific branch was smaller and had a flatter hierarchy, but I've heard head office is quite bureaucratic. Don't expect them to value career growth or take an interest in seriously training you.
