Micromanaged and completely inflexible - Operations Officer RBC Employee Review

Pros

RBC probably won't crash, and incompetence won't get you fired

Cons

Rather than just being tracked on what tasks you complete, they keep track of your 'idle time'. It is nonsensical and stressful. Even if you are completing a high volume of work, if you are not perfect at tracking when you are starting and completing it, you lose points. The tracking is more important than actually doing the work as the time between tasks must be kept to an absolute minimum. It is not uncommon to see coworkers crying at unattainable results, particularly the people who care about the work and want to go above and beyond. Quality doesn't matter, just volumes. Also, the vacation is very inflexible. As a new person, you will probably not get the weeks you want because most weeks are limited to one person at a time. This is not effective because of the high turnover at RBC. By the time the week you wanted comes around, the person who requested it probably isn't even on your team anymore. Also, for the level of work expected, the salary is well below what you could get elsewhere, unless you have a personal connection with a manager as they will prioritize their friends to be paid more.

Pros

Stable work life balance. The culture is really great, very easy to work with complex management and managers. Willing to help you grow and learn with clients

Cons

Not a lot of room for growth unless you come in the door with that expectation. It can be very easy to get stuck in this role as your pay slowly increases and the job title mostly stays the same. Associate promotions and raises are rarely given and take a lot of coercion to get.
